  • Draft question for the Packer faithful

No, this thread is not about the draft being fixed :-)...Anyone see the pack trading Aaron Rogers and their pick to move up and get Leinart or Young?

wouldn't be a bad idea, i doubt they'll do that though

No, never. I think they stay where they're at. If any move, which is what I want, they trade their first round pick for a few early-mid round picks. It wouldn't be bad to pick up about 2-3 offensive linemen or some linebackers/defensive backs.

If Favre is done, make it a total rebuilding/liquidating year and get rid of a bunch of picks for picks next year and the year after. Ted Thopson is not very good at being a GM, so they will draft some bullshit DB this high in the draft.

Rumer has it here in La Crosse is that Aaron is being traded for Dante Culpepper and Coach Tice. They wanted it to be a package deal.

If this nightmare would ever happen, anything I own green or gold will be promptly burned in a drum and pledge my alliegance to the 2007 Super Bowl Champions:

        Houston Texan's

PS, They could never find Captain Culpepper on Lake Michigan

I don't see it happening either. I think Rodgers will be there until/if he proves he can't be. I also disagree with twr108 about Ted Thomson, I think he did very well in last years draft and I think he will again.
My guess is they stay put at 5 and pick either Williams (DE) or Hawk (LB) or and MORE LIKELY trade down and gather more picks.

Ted Thomson didn't do well, they needed offensive linemen, and didn't draft one until the 6th round, I believe, didn't look it up. AJ Hawk would be a great fit in Green Bay, it would enable Nick Barnett to move to the OLB position, where he does belong.

I agree he didn't pick for need, but you have to remember he is a Wolf disciple, pick the best available talent. The talent he picked was good, Collins will be stud and I think Montgomery may be a good lineman next year. Poppinga was a monster on special teams and looked pretty good until he got hurt. Murphy, who knows? Can't remember the others off hand. I wouldn't mind seeing Hawk and Barnett back there together at all!

I agree, they would be two good LB's, it would take much of the load off of Barnett. I was mistaken, Hawk is an OLB, which would be good for pass rush. Even if htey stayed and picked up that DL from NC State, that would be okay too. Primarily they need pass protection, and that is the key to the Packers problems on offense. It would take away about 25-50% of Favre's bonehead mistakes, if he had any protection.

They need to hire a coach first. I think Mariucci is the front-runner...

Jim Bates is a great choice, he is a defensive coordinator and the Pack should be defensive minded while playing the West-Coast System. Singletary to be the D-coordinator, that would be perfect.

Haven't heard anything about Mooch, this is the list I have heard about:
Wade Phillips, Brad Childress, Jim Bates, Sean Payton, Ron Rivera, Maurice Carthon.

I wouldn't mind seeing Mooch in there as offensive coordinator with Bates as the head coach. I'm afraid if Bates doesn't get the job he may be a head coach somewhere else. Either make him head coach or pay him enough money to stay as the D. coordinator.

I sure hope the packers can pick up a good guard in free agency, they def. need improvement there, not only in protection, but opening some damn holes for the rb's.
