  • Lsu Canes Brawl (From the canes board)

in the LSU tunnel with about 20 of our players throwing blows against about 60 LSU players. State Troopers pulling our players out.
WQAM reporting that players are still going at it 10 minutes after the game ended.
The brawl began when the gun sounded and Dwayne Bowe grabbed the football and ran into the LSU locker room and Jon BEason gave chase and ran him down as he entered the LSU locker.
Both benches gave chase and both squads started throwing blows in the tunnel.

The Hurricanes watched LSU go for a fake field goal up by 34 points.

They saw a reverse run with the game over.

And then they saw an LSU player -- who eyewitnesses alternately identified as either Dwayne Bowe or Jacob Hester -- grab the game ball out of Jon Beason's hands at the end of the game and sprint toward the LSU locker room.

That, apparently, was the last straw.

                  The Canes, collectively, gave chase.

Andrew Bain is escorted off the field after being helped from the LSU tunnel, where he was reportedly knocked unsconscious by a helmet being swung at him
UM coaches Larry Coker, Don Soldinger and Mario Cristobal followed, as did UM's sports information staff -- one of whom bore a blood stain on his shirt afterward.

In all, there were at least 30 players crammed into the small tunnel that led to the LSU locker room.

There were helmets swung, punches thrown.

An LSU coach screamed for Roger McIntosh to be dragged off the field. Paul Dee refused to shake hands with an LSU official who offered an apology.

And the Canes offered no explanations that might have helped shed less of a negative light on Miami.

Instead, coach Larry Coker said he didn't know what happened. Other than that Khalil Jones and Andrew Bain were knocked unconscious in the melee.

"From my understanding they were knocked unconscious with a helmet," Coker said.

Bain was helped out of the tunnel by four officials. Jones was not seen leaving the tunnel or the locker room with the rest of the team.

He reportedly left separately with a bandage wrapped around his head.

Coker, when he met with the media after the game, said, "We don't condone activity such as that. I don't know all the details. I'm very disappointed for the Chick-fil-a Peach Bowl."

The Miami players' frustration following a 40-3 loss apparently ran over long afterward.

With reporters waiting outside the locker room for 10 minutes, the doors suddenly burst open.

There was yelling, and Baraka Atkins and Kareem Brown emerged and immediately stormed up a walkway. Coaches Tim Walton, Dan Werner and officials ran after the two players and grabbed them. They talked to them for several moments, finally ushering them back into the locker room.

Then the police arrived, telling media to leave the area. The media were never allowed back outside Miami's locker room.

A sullen looking team was finally paraded past media through a hallway leading to the team bus.

The only noticeable wound from the melee: Buck Ortega's right hand was wrapped in ice.

Players involved in the tunnel included McIntosh, Bain, Jones, Atkins, Charlie Jones, Tyrone Byrd, Tony Tella, James Bryant (who wanted to back in the tunnel afterward), Tyrone Byrd, Tyler McMeans, Kenny Phillips (who was visibly upset in the tunnel), Andrew Johnson, Vegas Franklin, Romeo Davis and Joe Joseph were all in the tunnel. Players like Antonio Dixon and others converged to try and pull them out.
