Decided to contribute a little objective (hopefully) info on ASU since I am a big fan. Can't do the same for Rutgers so you will have to get that on your own.
Everyone is talking about the flu bug. Don't think it matters a whole lot. This was nearly a week and a half ago. If the players don't know what they are doing or have the timing down yet they shouldn't even play because they will get killed.
Hagan supposedly is down with the flu. He will play for sure. Even if slowed down, ASU has a very deep receiving corps. Two great Tight Ends in Lewis and Miller. Wide recievers Richardson, Miller, and Mutz are more than capable of taking up slack.
Herring is also down with the flu but he will play less of a role in game, due to Rudy Burgess being much better pass blocker, especially with Rutgers D-Line sure to be coming strong. Pass blocking is a concern due to ASU missing two starting O-lineman for this game due to injuries. This is an issue, but not as much as you might think, due to the fact that ASU lost 4 starting O-lineman during the last four games of the season. Lots of backups got playing time and a little more confidence coming into this game.
Thing that concerns me the most is the intangibles. Rutgers likely coming in very psyched up. Hopefully a little too much, thus making stupid mistakes, but hard to say. This is first bowl game since the great garden state bowl in 78' vs ASU, for Rutgers. Don't think the homefield adv. will be as great for ASU as most people think. Rutgers is bringing a huge fan base and ASU fans are notorius for sitting on their hands if ASU gets down and are not that loud usually anyways. Lots of blue hairs in Az if you know what i mean.
I wont be betting on this game, because it is with my team and i don't want to jinx them, but I feel ASU will win. If i was to bet the spread, though, i would probably lean toward Rutgers. Don't think it is a slam dunk like most people do tough.
GL if you play
