Clemson suspends two for Champs Bowl

    12/20/05 5:30:10 PM CT

Clemson, SC (Sports Network) - Clemson tight end Bobby Williamson and defensive end Kwam Williams have been suspended for the Champs Sports Bowl because of academic reasons.

The Tigers face Colorado on December 27 in the bowl, which will be played in Orlando, Florida at the Florida Citrus Bowl Stadium.

Clemson had its final practice on campus Tuesday.

The suspensions do not effect either of the players' ability to return to Clemson as students for the spring semester of 2006.

Williamson is a senior and the suspension ends his career. He started nine of the 11 regular-season games at tight end, catching nine passes for 100 yards with one touchdown.

Williams, a red-shirt sophomore, played in nine games as a reserve defensive end this year. He had three tackles and is expected to rejoin the team for the spring semester.

Head coach Tommy Bowden also announced that wide receiver Kelvin Grant has been dismissed from the team for a violation of team rules. Grant, a red-shirt junior in 2005, suffered a torn ACL on October 5 during practice and missed the rest of the season. He was not expected to be physically able to play in the Champs Sports Bowl.

Grant, who is expected to transfer to a non-Division I school, had 10 catches for 84 yards in five games this year and 45 receptions for 437 yards in 26 games for his career.
