So. Miss got hot at the end of the year. Their losses were on the road against top competition, falling to Alabama by nine and to NC State by four. They also lost close battles against Conference USA foes Houston and Memphis. Their only other loss was to conference champion Tulsa.
Ark St. started the season well and then fell off, with losses to Middle Tennessee State (45-7) and to Army (38-10), while collecting unimpressive victories over Troy (9-3), Florida Atlantic (3-0) and North Texas (31-24). Those three wins came against the bottom-feeders of the Sun Belt this year.
