Villanova won five of last seven games vs cross-town rival Penn winning last two years by 74-64/73-63 scores. Villanova uses a four-guard set; they're 6-0 with wins over Oklahoma, Bucknell. Quakers lost three of last four games, but only fell 72-59 at Duke after losing 78-60 vs Colorado, 50-46 vs Temple.

Saint Louis is picked 11th in A-14, but they looked better than a 11 seed in loss at North Carolina; they're 4-3 this year, with win at Oakland their only road win in four tries. Ole Miss is 4-2, with OT loss at Illinois-Chicago last time out; they have no quality wins. Rebels are picked fourth in SEC West.

Wright State beat Northern Illinois 72-66 in OT last year at home in Bracket Buster game; Raiders are 1-4 so far this year, losing 64-53 at Toledo and 54-46 at Miami, both MAC teams, like NIU. Huskies won their MAC opener at Toledo and also have home win vs DePaul, so they're a pretty good team.

Louisiana Tech got waxed 84-63 at UL-Lafayette last year; Tech won its last three games, including decisive 68-53 win at Texas Tech, and is 5-3 on season. Ragin' Cajuns just got first win this season when they won in OT at UTEP Sunday; rebuilding ULL, which has lot of new players this season, is 1-4. .

New Orleans beat LSU four years ago, but lost three years since by 68-60/95-79/69-57 scores. Privateers are 0-2 on road, losing 77-66 at Tulane, 67-59 at Miss State, and also losing 4-OT games vs Southern Miss. LSU won at West Virginia, then got upset at home by Houston; they're 4-1 this year.

New Mexico State won first meeting vs New Mexico this season 67-61 in Las Cruces, as they made 30-36 free throws, compared to 16-27 for Lobos, who were also just 7-26 beyond 3-point arc. Aggies lost last two visits to Pit by 99-80/65-49 scores; they're 3-4 this season, 0-2 on road, losing 83-70 at UCLA, 74-64 at San Francisco. Lobos lost three of their last four games.

Wake Forest beat Richmond last two years by 17,15 points, as current DePaul coach Wainwright was with Spiders then; he has better talent with Demons, who are 4-3 this year, with solid win at Dayton last time out. Deacons are 7-1, with four wins by 10+ points, as they try to replace Paul at PG.

St Mary's had 25 wins last year; they're 0-3 this year, losing by 19 at Colorado, 6 vs Rutgers, 12 at Arizona; now they face slow pace of Air Force, which is 8-1 with win over Miami and an 85-74 loss at Washington; other than that, they've played a collection of stiffs, as Bzdelik breaks into college ball.

Oregon lost its last three games, on buzzer beater at Vandy, then pair of home whippings by Georgetown, Illinois; they won four games before that, but Pacific was only decent foe. Santa Clara is 4-2, with losses by 13 in OT at Miss State and 78-70 at Irvine, mixed in with 47-46 win at San Jose State.

Tuesday's List of 13: Nobody asked me, but............
                    13) Let me get this straight; last summer, there was noise in Miami about a coaching change with the Heat. This fall, Shaq goes down in second game, misses the next 18, then comes back, just in time for the coaching change to happen. Wow, what a coincidence!!!!

                    12) Why would he quit just when Shaq got back and he was going to start winning lot of games? Unless Shaq wanted him gone. I mean, if Shaq wants him to be the coach, he steps up says he wants Stan to be the coach, and Stan is the coach.

                    11) Think about it; if Dwyane Wade doesn't get hurt in Eastern Conference finals last year, Miami has great chance of beating Detroit. Then there are no summer whispers, no December resignation/forced exodus.

                    10) Coaching in the NBA. It's fantastic.

                    9) You get the idea both Van Gundy brothers would be much happier coaching Division III college ball and never having to see another TV camera the rest of their careers.

                    8) Would you trade for Ron Artest? Me either……….

                    7) Louisville-Kentucky Saturday. Restless week for Tubby Smith, whose Kentucky team is off to a poor start, getting drilled on national TV two Saturdays in a row.

                    6) If Miguel Tejada wants to play for a winner so bad, why did he sign with the Orioles?

                    5) Many have said it, but this truism comes to light again, in wake of Gary Barnett's dismissal: "They'll fire you for losing before they'll fire you for cheating."

                    4) You get the idea that before the NFC South is decided, Tampa Bay is going to regret that loss on Candlestick Point.

                    3) Drives me nuts when TV announcers implore losing teams to go for it on fourth down, because, "…they have nothing to lose." Well, they have this game to lose. Shouldn't teams be getting into winning habits as they play out the string in bad seasons? Week 14 of the NFL was filled with bizarre coaching moves, and Mike Martz wasn't even around.

                    2) Peter King noted in his weekly cnnsi.com column that the Texans are getting very good at losing close games, and inferred there could be a reason (Reggie Bush) behind it, and that theme was picked up by Sports Center. Bad for the NFL.

                    1) Two weeks ago, when Houston was killing the Rams at halftime, Jimmy Johnson launched into a riff about how if he owned the Texans, he'd be telling the coach to rest his starters and make damn sure he didn't win any more games. Wonder if anyone was listening to that.

1a) The NFL has two problems lurking under the surface right now: a) are the Texans tanking games? (eventual solution: go the NBA route and have lottery for top draft pick)

1b) What to do about the Saints? How will they sign any free agents or keep their own? Will they be able to have program for the offseason, and if so, where? Will they have minicamp in San Antonio? New Orleans? At some point, the NFL has to help them out a little bit; they haven't done much for them as fas as scheduling the games.
