NFL Week 13 Monday night analysis
Seahawks (9-2) @ Eagles (5-6)-Philly ended four-game skid last week, now face red-hot Seattle squad that won its last seven games, won its last three on road (but vs dregs of NFC West) and has run ball for 163 yards/game over last four weeks. Home dogs were 0-6 in NFL last week, but Monday night dogs have historically been good, especially with desperate team hosting team with division sewed up. Eagles are 4-1 at home, with only loss by point; they've run ball for 361 yards in last two home games. Favorites covered four of their last five games. Seattle 2-2 on grass this season. Reggie White's number being retired by Eagles tonight, with his former coach Holmgren in house.

                Hot Teams
-- Spurs won seven of last eight games, but are 1-7 vs spread in those games, covering one of last four on road.
-- Dallas won four of their last five road games. Bulls are 5-2 in last seven games, 1-2 in their last three.
-- Minnesota won six of its last eight games.
-- Heat are 3-1 in last four games; they're 9-2 when they allow less than 100 points, 1-5 if they don't. Clippers are 6-1 at home so far this season; they're 8-4 vs spread in their last twelve games overall.

                Cold Teams
-- Magic failed to win, cover last three games by 22,20 and 9 points.
-- Jazz ended three-game losing streak with win Sunday night in Portland.

Richmond, Louisville are both playing third day in row; Spiders are using Princeton-style game, so hard to prepare for in a day, but Cardinals have much better players, which is a bigger edge. Richmond os 4-2, losing by 19 to Arkansas State, 16 to Virginia. Louisville is 3-0, with wins by 17,25,12 points.

Iowa State got beat at home by Fresno State Saturday; last year Cyclones pounded Drake, 73-46, as 10-point favorite, and they won in last visit here, 83-77. Drake lost by 3 to Boston College on neutral floor, so they're much better team than they've been, thanks in part to pair of JC guys who have upgraded talent level

Illini trailed Xavier 14-1 Saturday, rallied to win, but this isn't the same Illini team that reached Final Four last year, even though a 7-0 record is good. Only one of their last four wins is by more than four points. UALR played well Saturday, losing 72-67 as a 24-point underdog at Michigan State; they're 2-2, with the other loss 75-65 as 6-point dog at Appalchian State.

Texas' next game is Saturday vs Duke, so possible Longhorns will overlook Rice squad that beat Utah at home in triple OT on Saturday, 96-94. That said, Duke needed 40-footer to get its win last night, so Barnes can use that to get his talented team to get motivated here. Texas has been pounding opponents, with five wins by 28 or more points out of their seven wins.

Utah State got upset at Middle Tennessee 60-59 Nov 21, as a 4.5 point favorite; Aggies also lost 67-66 at Utah, and won in OT at Oral Roberts, so they've had lot of action so far. MTSU is 3-1 so far, winning 65-62 at Portland State, in first game of western trip. Raiders lost other road game in OT at Indiana State, 85-79.

George Washington upset Maryland last year 101-92, as 6.5-pt dog, in this local rivalry that probably means more to GW than the Terps. Maryland is 5-1 this year, losing to Gonzaga, as they have beaten Arkansas, Minnesota. GW is 4-0 vs assortment of cupcakes; they move way up in class here.

Minnesota is little banged up still; they're 3-2 this year, losing at Maryland 83-66 in only road game, also losing 73-72 at home to Gardner-Webb. Arizona State is 4-0, but lost more than half its scoring from last year; they haven't played anyone yet (UCSB is best victim), so this opponent will be their toughest test so far.

Long Beach State is 2-0 at home, 0-3 on road, with losses by 35 at UNLV, 19 at Cal, 4 at Portland Saturday; they drilled Hornets last year, 87-63, as 4-point home favorite. Sacramento is 5-3 this year, after bad OT loss to Utah Valley Saturday, ending 3-game winning streak. Hornets already split pair of OT games this year.

Under is 189-154-11 (31-13-3 last eight nights)

                    Hot teams
-- Rangers won six of their last seven games.
-- Coyotes won five of their last seven games.
-- Ottawa won six of their last seven games. Panthers are 3-2 in last five games, after 12-game losing streak; they lost 4-1 at Ottawa on Nov 17.

                    Cold teams
-- Minnesota lost seven of their last nine games, scoring five goals in losing their last three, twice in shootouts.
-- Atlanta lost three in row and six of last eight games, scoring four goals in last three games.

                    Totals
-- Under is 11-5-1 in last seventeen Minnesota games, 7-2 in last nine Ranger games.
-- Five of last seven Phoenix home games stayed under.
-- Last four Senator games stayed under the total.

Monday's List of 13, talking NFL on a December morning
                      13) The 94-yard kick return by Bengals' Chad Perry in the 3rd quarter might have been the best kick return I've ever seen, right down left sideline, even though he didn't score. It set tone for rest of the game, as Cincy avenged an earlier loss to the Steelers, and seized control of AFC North.

                      12) A guy at Ford Field was running around stands with small sign that said "Fire Millen"; the darn thing was really small, shopping bag-size, and security chased him around like he was freakin' Bin Laden, until a portly guard nailed him against one of the seats. Hit him pretty good, too. Free speech is not alive and well in Detroit, I see.

                      11) Good piece by Tony Siragusa during Bear-Packer game, on long snapper for Bears; how he practices, both before and during game. Well-timed, too, since Maynard had his punt downed at Packer 3-yard line right after clip showed.

                      10) Daunte Culpepper was at his first Viking game since knee injury that ended his season. You just know that people will want him gone, if Vikings continue to win with Brad Johnson, just the way some people are.

                      9) Not many teams get 21-0 leads in first quarter of NFL game and it is even rarer when teams that get one lose, but Buffalo pulled it off, having pass picked off on goal line when up 23-3 in third quarter, and it was all downhill from there.

                      8) Why were the Giants wearing red jerseys? So people could go out and buy them for Christmas? This was their biggest game of season (and yes, I know they won anyway) but you would think they'd want to wear their traditional blue jerseys in such a big game.

                      7) Lions only had three running backs active Sunday, which seems like a small number, especially when one of them is FB Schlesinger, who rarely carries the ball.

                      6) How on God's green earth has Aaron Brooks started over 80 consecutive games? What in the name of Edd Hargett is going on down there? He isn't horrible, but is terrible in the clutch, and he never gets replaced. Amazing. You'd think at some point, they'd try the backup, just for a spark.

                      5) There is no truth to rumor that Dr Jack Kevorkian is now a Raiders' team physician; they've already been dead for couple of weeks, so no need for a mercy killing.

                      4) Jet coaches have their minds elsewhere; why wouldn't they have challenged an obvious incomplete pass by Patriots, that was fumbled (dropped) and resulted in Patriot first down, on play that would have been reversed by replay? Horrible; no wonder they're headed to 2-14 or 3-13 finish.

                      3) Bears were 0 for 10 on third down, averaged 2.5 yards per pass attempt, had two turnovers, no offensive TD's, seven 3-and-outs, and still covered as 7-point favorites. Amazing.

                      Two non-NFL notes:
                      2) Marlins shouldn't be allowed to sell off their players for no talent in return; they're skewing next season's pennant races. If they don't want to have a team, fold the team, fold another club, then hold a dispersal draft, and go with 28 teams. If they do want to have a team, then they need to have a salary floor, that would require to spend *** amount of dollars. This was suggested earlier, of course, but scumweasel lawyers for the players' union rejected it out of hand.

                      1) Gonzaga played another classic hoop game Sunday, up at Seattle, as they lost to Washington Huskies for first time in eight years. If you can, see this team on TV. Great to watch.

Guys, he is the closest thing I've seen to Larry Legend in college. I hope he continues to do well. Great seeing someone have passion and fun playing a game w/o all the BS.
