Texas is 8-1-1 vs spread in its rivalry with Aggies, winning last five meetings by average score of 37-14; they won last two trips to College Station, 21-7/46-15. Last year, they outrushed Aggies 274-31 in 26-13 win. Longhorns are 9-1 vs spread this year; and 11-2 vs spread as double digit favorite; they've scored 42+ pts in each of last eight games, and averaged 56.8 ppg in last four. A&M lost last three games, allowing 44.7 ppg. This is intense rivalry, but otherwise seems to be mismatch.

Homw side won four of last five Arkansas-LSU games, with the Hogs losing last two visits to Baton Rouge, 41-38/55-24; they got outrushed 295-95 in last year's 43-14 home loss to LSU, who have won clinch spot in SEC title game with win here. Bengals are 4-0 as double digit favorite this year, but are 0-3 vs spread in SEC home games (Tennessee, Florida, Auburn); their only was in game they led 21-0 at half. Arkansas won its last two games but is 4-6, so they can't go bowling; they covered three in a row on foreign soil.

Visitor is 10-3 vs spread in last 13 Arizona-ASU games, with the Wildcats splitting last two at this site; they upset Sun Devils in Stoops' first year, 34-27 as 14-point home dog; they've covered seven of last eight as underdog in this series, and have shown improvement this year, covering last four tries as dog; they lost to Washington in last game, though 38-14, as 13-point favorite. Sun Devils can go bowling with win; they might have different coach next year if they lose.

Colorado goes to Big 12 title game with win here hated rival; CU covered eight of last nine series games, but were dog in all nine. Visiting team won last three series games, with Buffs winning 3 of last four meetings, by 26,15,6 points. Colorado is 3-0 as fave of 10+ points this year, while Cornhuskers covered just two of last eight as road dog. QB Taylor was hurt at end of Kansas St game and pirze frosh QB Beck had his red shirt taken off, so he could be making his first road start here, in hostile environment.

Hawai'i is 14-5 vs spread in November home games, when clubs come to Paradise as reward for long season. Wisconsin asked for and got neutral officials for this game; now they need their OL to block better, after Penn State sacked them nine times, and Iowa six in pair of recent losses. Five of last seven Hawai'i tilts went over total. Wisconsin is +10 in turnovers this season, and has not had game with minus TO ratio. Six of their eight wins in 2005 are by nine or more points

Washington is 5-0 already, with four wins by 17+ points; they lost three starters from 29-6 team. LMU is 1-1, upsetting BYU, then losing at home to Montana; they have four starters back from 11-17 club. Huskies beat LMU last year, 100-93, as 6-point favorite.

Georgia Tech won its first two games by 28,12 points; they lost all five starters from last year's 20-12 team. Illinois-Chicago has three starters back from 15-14 club; they're 2-1, with the three games decided by total of nine points. Tech plays three guards, two sophomores and a junior.

UAB opens its season in Springfield vs UMass club that split its first two, losing 66-63 at Davidson, after beating Hartford by five points. UAB has three starters back from 22-11 club, while UMass has three starters back from 16-12 club, plus new coach

Florida is 4-0 already, with wins over Wake Forest, Syracuse on neutral court; they have two starters back from 24-8 team, have better chemistry, more balance. Seminoles are 2-0, winning their first two games by 30,18 points; they have four starters back from last year's 12-19 squad.

North Carolina pounded Cleveland State, 112-55, after nipping a decent Gardner-Webb club, 83-80; Tar Heels have entirely new team, but very talented one. Cal-Santa Barbara won its first two games, over San Diego, San Francisco; they have four starters back from 11-18 club, but are making long trip for first road tilt.

Drexel played its heart out Wednesday in loss to Duke; they're 3-1 this year, despite losing four starters from 17-12 club. UCLA is also 3-1; they're bit banged up. This game means more to the Dragons than UCLA, which will have four starters back from an 18-11 team, when they all get healthy.

Memphis is favored over Duke? On neutral floor? Both sides are unbeaten; Duke has yet to win by less than 10. Memphis won at Alabama, are 3-0 with wins by 27-11-8 points. Duke lost one of its big guys with hairline fracture in ankle, so they're bit thin up front, and Memphis talking big, but I ain't giving Duke points.

USC is learning new system with team whose freshmen are better than their four returning guys; they'll be hard to back at all this season, as they learn Floyd's sytem. They're also weak inside. Eastern Washington lost three starters from 8-20 club.

Oral Roberts has four starters back from 25-8 team, protects ball well, but will be missing Fowlkes, who went home for funeral of his grandmother. Marquette is vulnerable after home court loss to Winthrop; they have two starters back from 19-12 team. Was not thrilled with ORU vs Trojans, but this is bigger for them.

Monmouth pulled shocker last night, beating Southern Illinois; they have three starters back from 16-13 team- their other game this year was 70-66 loss to San Francisco. South Carolina has lot of athletes; they beat Toledo by 12, W. Carolina by 25 and return three starters from last year's 20-13 team that won NIT.

Northeastern is 3-0, but hasn't played anyone, with 94-90 win at Central Connecticut not an endorsement; they have 4 starters back from 21-10 team as they jump to CAA this year. Northridge beat USC in OT, then beat Tulsa by six; they have three starters back from 18-13 team. One of those good power rating games.

Rutgers coach Waters built Kent's program before bolting for Big East; his Scarlet Knights have just one senior, but did win first two games, by 20 over Austin Peay, 7 over Delaware State. Kent lost to DSU, but beat Peay by 27. Rutgers has four starters back from last year's 10-19 club that lost six games they led in fional twenty seconds of the game.

Wichita is 3-0, feasting on hideous set of opponents; now they move way up in class, vs Illinois team that is also 3-0, winning by 25-12-34 points. Shockers lost four starters from 22-10 club. Illini lost three starters from Final Four club, but they're still the #12 preseason team in Blue Ribbon.

Drake coach Davis used to be BC mentor; his Bulldogs are lot better this year, and his coaching vs Skinner is worth some pts for Drake, but BC has four starters back from 25-5 club, so this could be trouble. Eagles pounded pretty good Buffalo squad by 29 the other night. Drake is well-coached, but not at same level as far as talent goes.

TCU is struggling, losing to D-2 Tarleton State, then beating Jackson State by hoop; they have two starters back from 21-14 team, but are not good right now. Oklahoma State lost four of its starters from last year; they beat Tex-Arlington by 9, then killed Jackson State by 41.

Portland State won Big Sky regular season title last year; they hung in well vs Iowa State Wednesday, losing by 8. Vikings lost three starters from last year. Iona beat Howard 80-68 in its first game; Gaels have three starters back from 15-16 team. This is 4th game for Portland State, second for Iona.

Siena lost by five at Penn as 16-point dog, despite having small club with very little depth; they can shoot it, though,. but they run into angry Syracuse team that lost its last two games, both by five points, to Florida, bucknell, and will be glad to find team they can whack around to get back in win column. Orange beat Siena last year, 78-56.

Wake Forest is 4-1, losing only by 5 to Florida, but two of their wins ae in OT, as they struggle to find solid PG play. Deacons have two starters back from 27-6 club. Appalchian State is 2-0, with wins over Little Rock by 10, VCU by 4; they lost three of starters from last year's 18-12 team.

Tennessee won its first two games for new coach, by 23,7 pts; they have three starters back from 14-17 team and are pegged as SEC sleeper, since their veteran players are well-suited to play a pressing style that Pearl prefers. Eastern Kentucky was 22-9 last year, has four starters back, but lost two of first three games this year, losing by 8 to Georgia, in double OT to Wisconsin.

Friday's List of 13: A busy sports weekend moves on.....
          13) Don't like the Lions' black jerseys; they look too much like Carolina's uniforms.

          12) Think anyone in NFL offices would like to boot the Lions off Thanksgiving every year, and put, say, Atlanta on, so it could get Michael Vick on national TV an extra time each yr?

          11) In their 40th NFL season, this was Atlanta's first, but not last, appearance on Turkey Day.

          10) Colts are the 17th team to start a season 10-0.

          9) Bernie Kosar holds record for most consecutive passes thrown without an INT (all in same season) when he threw 286 passes without a pick in 1991.

          8) South Florida coach Leavitt is rumored to have good shot at the Kansas State job. My question to him would be this: Why would you want that job? South Florida, in Big East, is a better job than Kansas State, considering how fertile Florida is with high school football players.

          7) Popular rumor in Pittsburgh last week was Bob Huggins as the new basketball coach at Duquesne.

          6) Pitt-West Virginia game Thursday night had lot of guys in stands wearing camouflage gear. Lot of hunters in the house.

          5) Dick Vitale was promoting Jim Boeheim as an assistant on the '08 Olympic team, so he could teach zone defense. This is a guy who didn't know enough to press Vermont last March. No disrepsect, but I think we can do better than Boeheim.

          4) USC will take its lumps this year in hoops; they're weak on the inside, but have good freshmen; in two years, they'll be a NCAA tournament team.

          3) There was poker tournament on TV from Monte Carlo; in their casinos, some of their poker chips are square. ESPN has ping pong on as I type this. Seriously.

          2) Monmouth beat Southern Illinois up in Alaska, pretty big November upset, which foils ESPN's plan to show Friday's Southern Illinois-South Carolina game, which now will not happen. Whoops.

          1) So now the Mets have become like the Bronx baseball club acquiring older, expensive players in order to make their new TV station popular. Good for them; just what we need; more inequity in an already inequitable sport.
