I say we take the top 16 BCS teams and have a 16 team playoff.. Below are today's BCS top 16 and the parings in round 1..

#1 USC VS #16 Texas Tech
#2 Texas VS #15 Georgia
#3 Penn State VS #14 Alabama
#4 LSU VS #13 TCU
#5 Virginia Tech VS #12 UCLA
#6 Ohio State VS #11 West Virginia
#7 Oregon VS #10 Auburn
#8 Notre Dame VS #9 Miami

This would be awesome. But it will never happen. It is all about money and this format won't bring in the money they want.

Also Colleges love the Bowl System because they all have a shoot at going out winners.

TMAC...toooo many games! This is one reason the NCAA is balking at a play-off! I don't think you need to start with any more than the top 8 teams (at the very most), and maybe only the top 4. There's no way a team as low as #9 would have dibs on the National title.

Using the Big 4 New Year's Day Bowl games (8 teams) as the "1st round" of the play-offs, this would leave 4 teams remaining. You'd need 2 more weeks to finish, which takes you to the middle of January. With many teams already playing 12 games, this would now stretch a teams schedule to 15 games...which is a lot!

I think only the top 4 BSC teams should have a crack at the National Title.....I don't think you'll leave out a potential Champ using the top 4 teams! The Top 2 New Year's Day Bowls will be the semi-finals, with the Championship game being held the following week (Jan 8-9-10). This should be sufficient for obtaining a true champ, one that the NCAA should have no problem with.
