College hoops off to a 1-2 start for -1.2 units
For tonight....
1* Florida Gators -1 1/2
We have an unranked Fla team favored over a Wake Forest team, struggling to find an identity after losing one hell of a player and point guard in Chris Paul. Florida has scored 80 and 83 points and covered the spread in its 2 wins versus overmatched St. Peter's and Albany, respectively. Wake Forest on the other hand is 0-2 against the number to start off the year but came out on top versus both Mississippi Valley State and George Mason, who took the Demon Deacons to overtime. I look for a high scoring game with the gators coming out on top!
1* Texas Tech Red Raiders -1
Here is another unranked opponent favored (albeit, the tiniest of spreads) over #16 ranked Syracuse. The Cuse lost a lot of talent off last year's squad and I don't think they can keep up with Bobby Knight's squad. My only concern with this game is Boeheim's 2-3 zone, which could cause some problems for Tech. I think Martin Xeno has enough length and ability to get in the middle of that zone for some easy scoring opportunities. Darryl Dora and Jarrius Jackson return to this talented squad that went to the Sweet 16 before getting beat by the hot shooting team of West Virginia. Tech by 10.
1* Memphis Tigers +2
Memphis is coming off a drubbing of the Panthers of Wisc-Mil. The inexperience of the Tigers wasn't a factor as they beat a good Panther team that returned 4 starters from a Sweet 16 team last year, holding them to 52 points. Alabama struggled a little bit last time out beating Miami of Ohio by 6 after being tied at the half. Alabama lost their best player last year in Kennedy Winston. Chuck Davis tried to pick up for Winston leading the team with 19 but only 2 other reached the double digit mark in points and both only had 10. I will ride Calipari and his youngsters here.
