Shooting from the Hip ... Mid Season … Superbowl Prediction

The quality of football this year in the NFL has been Piss Poor . Aside from the infamous “ Strike Season of 1987 “ I have never seen such a sorry bunch of incompetent, out of shape, Fruitcake Quarterbacks all lumped into one single year. Many are just not durable .. some should have retired but didn’t … others were over - hyped while in college and the Pro Scouts bought it … and on and on

The Colts have flown high because they have played the easiest schedule to date and for the entire season they have the 30th most difficult slate of games … they look like winners but their Cross To Bear is Tony Dungy who is not a playoff big - game coach . Same with The Chargers … San Diego looks promising after a poor start but they have a coach who is one of the biggest playoff failures in NFL History … Denver … well … is just being Denver but we’ll see how Jake performs in the cold winter months ahead … The knock is that he can’t throw in the rain … Tampa Bay is good but brittle at QB and Phil Simms’ Son is not the answer … The Bears are doing it with mirrors … and that only lasts so long … New England has slipped but have the best coach by far … Pittsburgh is good but not THAT good … Joe Gibbs is one of the best but he just doesn’t have enough horses … Try it out for yourselves .. go up and down the line and tell me … Are the NFL teams mediocre at best or what ?

What am I saying ? … The Superbowl is up for grabs and will be won by the Dog with the least amount of Fleas.

So who will win it all ?

This year’s Superbowl Winner will be …. THE CAROLINA PANTHERS … nice and quiet … workmanlike at 5-2 … good , GOOD coach who’s been there before … nobody’s talking about them too much … no one’s making a fuss … I feel strongly about them … and I’ve made the necessary wagering arrangements . Hard to tell who their opponent will be.

Last weekend was a “Service Burial Supreme “ as All The Putzes gave out Jacksonville , New England , Cincinnati , Washington ( One Tout’s 4* Game of The Month ) and the Ultimate Backbreaker --- Pittsburgh. It’s enough to make the unexperienced bettor turn to the NBA and NHL for solace … but guess what … those pituitary cases and toothless geeks can be pretty tricky too … especially if you take the advice of touts who, of course, know LESS than anyone.

Yo Mike Tice … I’ve placed a curse on you and I won’t remove it until you cut off that filthy Tee Shirt that seems to be glued to you much like barnacles are attached to the side of a ship … You can’t coach but try at least to look like it … and my offer still stands … I’ll take you shopping , but I swear if you wear that bummy shirt I’ll have you thrown in the trunk and left in the parking lot …. I won’t have you strolling into my stores looking like a freaking hobo.

Today we are saddled with a bunch of half – assed games … this card is just awful , not to mention complicated and riddled with uncertainty in the QB position for a number of games … There are 9 road favorites … each one more tricky than the next … Sometimes this happens and we have no choice but to make the best of it. This is the kind of day where money is lost so above all be careful. If you must play , then more so than usual, go against the Squares.

When Joey (“ I prefer to throw an interception for a TD rather than get sacked or God Forbid throw it away altogether “ ) Harrington was named the starter for Detroit , the line moved from The Lions –1 ½ to Minnesota –1 …not a lot of faith in that Fruitcake, is there ?

Green Bay is 16-0 ATS in the situation they are in today. But here’s where it gets tricky … I origionally liked The Pack against Ben, I’d LOVE the Pack against Maddox ( who once played football for a Wrestling Promoter ) but now that Charlie Batch has been named the starting QB I’ll pass this game. Why ? He’s Pittsburgh’s 3rd stringer but he plays with more guts and fire than the other 2. He just might have something to prove.

Mike Tice notwithstanding , The Vikings will be greatly point - spread improved in the upcoming games now that Brad Johnson is quarterbacking … look for them to cover more often than not in the season’s 2nd half.

I have this recurrent vision in which I see "Daunte" in an Edmonton Eskimo Uniform getting booed off the field by Molson Filled Canadians

I was right last week when I said The Colts would be installed at – 3 for tomorrow night’s battle with The Pats ; also I got my one of my wishes in that New England looked extremely ordinary in coming from behind to defeat Buffalo … The line moved from 3 to 3 ½ on Monday … then –4 later on this week … loads of Colt money came in which does not surprise me … books are reluctant to come off a 3 unless a ton of one sided money pours in … now the stage is set for a colossal fake out … I smelled a scam last week and my feeling has not changed … New England will defeat The Colts tomorrow night in Foxboro. Historically , every Great Battle has been won before it was even started … with the General’s Game Plan … Bear in mind the tremendous coaching mismatch this game affords us. The game was won last Wednesday in Bill Bellichek’s Conference Room … all the rest is a mere formality … And unless I miss my guess The Putz Touts will give out Indianapolis to their suckers.

A couple of lingering questions and then on to business… Will Washington recoup from last week’s beating ? I think not …. Will The Giants keep their intensity and firmness of resolve and continue to rally around the death of a Great Man ? …I think yes … Will The Jaguars rebound from last week’s loss and impose their will on that Other Fruitcake Quarterback who should be an Actor rather than stink up the NFL … they should !!! … and lastly but most importantly … what will I decide to have for dinner tonight ?

The main event of the day should be your supper … once again, BE CAREFUL OUT THERE TODAY

    Last Week:

    Sides : 5-2

    Totals: 2-2

    Season :

    Sides: 24-19

    Totals: 19-12

    Overall:

    43-31

The Plays for Today and Tomorrow:

    Top Sides: Only 1

Game of the Week: New England over Indianapolis

New England is the only side which really turns me on …. Both ATS and on The Money Line.

Top Totals: All backed by solid, long term, multiple systems.

    Detroit / Minnesota OVER

    Cincinnati / Baltimore UNDER

    Carolina / Tampa Bay UNDER

    Atlanta / Miami UNDER

NY Giants / San Francisco UNDER

New England / Indianapolis OVER (The Pats open it up )

Opinions with a gun to my head:

I hate this card … Go ahead and shoot

I will take time off until I start feelin it again , whenever that will be .. right now I'm not ... going to sit on this past year's earnings ... it was another good year. If there is anything Special in College Football I’ll be in touch.

    Good Luck As Always

Grate analysis of the season so far. Not sure Carolina can go all the way. They're a very good team, but a little too conservative for me. They have experience, running came and have been there before. Hope you keep posting as I enjoy reading your writeups.

                          Larry

Ps I agree with you on New England. Better coach, better quarterback and at home. I also think they will open it up and total will go over.

                              Nice Sunday Meal

                              Neil,
Sounds Good !!! I like to buy veal tenderloins {packing house not far}, cut the loins into 1/4 to 1/2 inch "medallions",
then tenderize with a wooden or soft brass mallet between two sheets of wax paper until thin. Next, I place some olive oil{extra vergine olio di oliva}, minced garlic, and fresh parsley in a 10" sautee pan, warmed slightly. Take your scaloppine, and dunk them alternately between a mixture of beaten egg, and a separate plate of HOMEMADE, seasoned bread crumbs with a touch of grated Parmiggiano Reggiano {or Grana Padano}.
Lightly sautee the scaloppine over a medium heat, and after turning, put in a shotglass full of REAL marsala dolce.
You can add some freshly sauteed porcini mushrooms if you so desire. NEVER use tartufi, they only overpower the delicate veal. Buon Appetito.
