Monday's List of 13, summing up Week 9 in NFL
13) Someone should inform Michael Vick that part of cashing those big checks like he does includes being scrutinized a lot; it is part of the QB position, albeit an unpleasant part. He will be lot better off when he lets criticism roll off his back.
12) Total yardage in first half of Falcon-Dolphin game was 252-96 Falcons, yet the score was just 14-10. The NFC South has two very good teams and one pretty good team in it.
11) In their first 39 seasons in NFL, Falcons have never had back-to-back winning seasons, but that will change this year.
10) Titans had only three healthy WR's Sunday, so they had three tight ends active. Tennessee failed on two fake punts in their 20-14 loss at Cleveland.
9) Pittsburgh was so lucky Sunday; the sack/fumble on Favre that was run back for TD by Polamalu made game 13-3, when it could have been 6-6. Steelers were 0 for 8 on third down, were just 9-16/59 passing, and survived road game on a short work week with Charlie Batch under center. Good win.
8) Carolina averaged 11.1 yards per pass attempt at Tampa; that, and +4 turnover ratio made it easy day for John Fox.
7) Quick college football note: How in God's name do these pollsters put Miami ahead of Alabama? Crimson Tide hasn't lost, and they play in SEC. Miami lost. This puts them notch below Alabama, I don't care what anyone says. Prothro isn't playing anymore, I know, but until they lose, they deserve a spot in rankings above once-beaten Miami.
6) 49ers once again failed to pass for 100 yards; they're 2-3 at home, with only one bad loss, but with no passing game, it is hard for them to pmepte on road. I mean, they're 12.5-point underdogs at the punchless Bears next week.
5) Tom Coughlin was criticized when rookie Brandon Jacobs fumbled on goal line at Dallas, but he stuck with Jacobs, who had two 1-yard TD runs at Candlestick Sunday. The addition of Jacobs has greatly improved Giants' short yardage game.
4) Brett Favre's first win as an NFL starting QB was first loss as head coach for Pittsburgh's Bill Cowher, back in '92.
3) NFL rules dictate that the PAT must be tried after every TD even if it occurs on last play of game. But many Raiders left the field before the PAT after Larry Johnson's game-winning TD. The kick was made with 10 Raiders on field, one of whom was QB Kerry Collins.
2) Not exactly sure what Donovan McNabb was thinking on the play right before the half Sunday night, but Dan Marino he ain't, for sure. Field goal would have been big there.
1) To TV football gurus: Please stop showing QB hits in slow motion; show them at game speed, so we can tell if they're late or not. Plus, we lose how violent a game it is when every hit is shown in slow motion.
