Wednesday's List of 13, Nobody Asked Me, but..........
                  13) Before we put the Giants in the Super Bowl, could they win a road game? Eli Manning has yet to win a road start, but has excellent chance this week when Giants face the 49ers for first time since 39-38 playoff loss that started the end of the Fassel Era (they blew 38-14 lead) three years ago.

                  12) Instead of Al Michaels telestrating the confluence of the Three Rivers Monday night, short piece on former Colorado/ Washington coach Rick Neuheisel reviving his coaching career as QB coach of the Ravens might have been timely. But, we got Michaels amusing himself instead of educating us.

                  11) In the brief history of Heinz Field, kickers, Steeler kickers included, are 0-6 on field goal attempts of 50+ yards. Matt Stover's 49-yarder Monday was the longest in Heinz history.

                  10) You'd think there would be more comebacks in Steeler home games; after all, at Heinz Field, it should be easier to play catch up.

                  9) Let me see, Theo Epstein left the Red Sox because he only made $550,000 a year, and he was put out because Boston had offered Billy Beane $12.5M over five years, and probably because Brian Cashman makes $1.7M. Interesting career choice, but where does he go from here?

                  8) Maybe Epstein saw Sox trading Manny Ramirez, figuring the team would slide some, and thought his star would be brighter if he distanced himself from that, positioning himself for a job somewhere else in 2007.

                  7) If you are a Red Sox fan, you look at Epstein ($550K) and Terry Francona ($700K), then look at the Bronx and see Joe Torre ($6.5M) and Cashman ($1.7M) and you question how Boston will compete with the Evil Empire in next few years, especially since much of the Red Sox front office is likely to head off to Arizona, where former Epstein aide Josh Byrnes is now employed.

                  6) As an A's fan, I look at how these other teams run their franchises, and realize that had Beane accepted that offer from Red Sox, my A's would be the west coast version of the Royals right now.

                  5) Can you remember any QB ever being 0-12 passing to start a game, like Donovan McNabb was Sunday? Not just the NFL (even Jerry Golsteyn or Scott Bull were never that bad), but any level of football? This week's Eagle-Redskin Sunday nighter is very, very big for both sides, considering last week's results.

                  4) Good stuff in Sports Illustrated last week; article written by Jack McCallum, in which the writer becomes an unofficial coach with the Suns for a week during training camp. Surest mark for a good article; I wanted more of it when I was done reading. Would definitely make an excellent book idea.

                  3) Further proof that my NBA Fantasy team is really cursed ( I have Amare Stoudemire and his micro-fracture): Wizards excitedly announce five-year contract extension for Caron Butler, who I think is headed for big year, then they say he's going to be the sixth man to open the season. Hard to get excited about a guy that doesn't start for the Wiz.

                  2) New Yorkers are excited about the Knicks, but mainly because Larry Brown got through training camp without threatening to quit. Why would anyone with as strong a resume as Brown's want to coach Stephon Marbury twice in his career?

                  1) Could David Stern put in a rule that Hubie Brown must broadcast a game on Opening Night every season? I'm glad Hubie struck it rich with ABC, but that means we don't hear him until Christmas, and there just isn't enough upside in that for us.
