      Tuesday's Game
Astros won last seven Oswalt starts (6-0, 2.83); he has a 2.11 RA in three playoff starts. Seven of his last ten starts stayed under the total. Houston is 39-18 at home when roof is closed, 15-11 when it is open, which is why it has been closed for all postseason tilts so far in '05, but Bud Selig wants it open, weather permitting. Garland is 2-0, 2.42 in his last three starts; his last five all stayed under. Pale Hose only lost one game in postseason so far.

Tuesday's List of 13, random observations.........
        13) Odd happenings in St Louis, where Mike Martz called a guy in Jones Dome Sunday, had him run a suggestion into the offensive coordinator, only Ram officials wouldn't let the guy into the coaches' booth.

Now, today, word comes down that Martz is done for season and will make no more calls to Ram coaches. In his session in the media room,. Martz made no mention of any Ram officials, didn't wear shirt with Ram logo. Am guessing he has coached his last game as head coach of the St Louis Rams.

        12) How did Houston lose 38-20 and throw only nine passes the whole game? Their net passing yardage was six yards. If ever a team needed Mike Martz as head coach, this is it. They could tolerate his quirks and disinterest in other aspects of the game, because the way Texans are now, times are tough.

        11) NFL's most underrated defense? The Detroit Lions. They forced 3+ turnovers in five of their six games.

        10) Seattle has outscored opponents 47-3 in last 2:00 of each half, Bengals 41-3.

        9) Not sure why Raiders scored TD with 0:14 left in Sunday's games, when they already had 31-17 lead. Something to tuck away for another day.

        8) If you look at the Falcons' offensive line, you see three 7th-round draft picks, a 5th-round pick and an undrafted guy, so it is obvious how good teams make hay on second day of the draft each April.

        7) Brad Ausmus and Carl Everett are both playing in World Series, and were also both taken off Bronx roster during the 1992 expansion draft, that stocked Rockies and Marlins.

        6) While Monday night may very well have been last time we ever see Vinny Testaverde play in NFL, Georgia Dome is now the 41st different NFL stadium he has played in.

        5) With Chiefs getting two extra days to prepare for this week when their Miami game was moved up to Friday last week, it creates a stretch of five straight San Diego opponents who will have more preparation time that the Bolts do.

        4) Astros are 39-18 at home when roof is closed, 15-11 when it is opened, which is why they closed it for all postseason tilts so far in '05, but Bud Selig, America's used car salesman, has ordered that, weather permitting, the roof be open Tuesday.

        3) The average American League baseball game lasted 2:47 in 2005 season; Mark Buehrle's starts averaged 2:30.

        2) Saturday night will be first time since 1959 where Michigan has played Northwestern, with Wildcats higher ranked team.

        1) Unique situation in Sunday's Tampa-49er game; how many times has an NFL team, in mid-season, had to face team where their own starting QB for first four games of season is on the other sideline? Player trades have been rare in NFL, but with Tim Rattay on Buc bench, won't he know all the 49er plays? Not that the 49ers need any other disadvantages.
