          NFL Monday night analysis

Jets (2-4) @ Falcons (4-2)-First times these teams met since '98; Gang Green is 0-3 on road, with average loss by 22-9; they failed to gain 275 yards in any of their last five games. Atlanta's defense has slipped last two weeks, allowing 352 rushing yards and 62 points, but they've stopped foes on 20 of last 27 third down plays and won three of last four overall. Four of six Falcon games been decided by four or less points. Martin got loose for two big runs in Buffalo last week, but asking lot of Vinny if you think this team is winning with offense. Their turnover ratio is -1; in their playoff years, they've been in double digits on positive side. Vick's mobility has Atlanta 5th in NFL in red zone offense

Monday's List of 13, wrapping up good sports weekend
            13) Bill Cowher revealed an interesting tidbit in his postgame press conference, saying that on close calls around the end zone, officials will take time lining teams up for extra point, so coaches can determine whether they need to challenge the play. Wonder if the league knew that.

            12) Umpiring in baseball playoffs has been beyond awful; the umps missed another huge call Sunday, saying a pitch that deflected off bat of Jermaine Dye actually hit the right fielder, then the next batter hit a grand slam. Whoops.

            11) Bad time for Brad Lidge to start throwing fat pitches; after all, Scott Podsednik didn't hit a home run all season.

            10) Three struggling teams, Rams, Vikings and Cardinals all fell behind at home by double digits, then came back to win. Of course, teams they played aren't very good either.

            9) Speaking of Rams, Jamie Martin made fourth career start in 11 NFL seasons; he can't say he's tired, but he won game that Rams didn't dress Bulger, Bruce, Holt or Little, so a good win.

            8) Somewhere, somehow, the sports gods owe Jim Haslett, as his miserable season got that much worse Sunday, after his Saints got hosed on key play right before the 2:00 warning,, but because Saints had used their timeouts to get ball back, they couldn't challenge the play. Bad rule, since play ended with less than 2:00 to play, but booth replays don't start until the first play after 2:00 warning. That rule will change.

            7) I see Lee Evans wears #83 for the Bills; how have they not retired Andre Reed's number? Not good.

            6) I am assuming most kids in Hawaii have lot of shorts and sandals. Does this mean every kid in Seattle has three or four rain ponchos? What a depressing place that must be to live.

            5) Attention people who puts stats on graphics; plays run is a more telling statistic than time of possession, especially in NFL, where clock restarts after some plays, but not others.

            4) Florida Atlantic, Arkansas State became first teams to play a 3-0 OT game, with host ASU winning Saturday night. The last 0-0 tie was a rain-drenched Oregon-Oregon St tilt in '83.

            3) Brad Smith of Missouri became the sixth college QB ever to both run and pass for 200+ yards in same game, as Missouri shut Cornhuskers out in second half of 41-24 win.

            2) No NFL team has ever gone five straight games without a turnover; Denver almost did it today, but not quite.

            1) If NFL wants more scoring, just tell the damn refs to stop calling so many holding penalties. I watch 14 hours of ball on Saturday, then all the NFL games; college football has better flow to it, because there are a lot less penalties called.
