  • Hey Southern Dandy..........you wanna bet?

As a lifelong astros/rockets/oilers fan, last night was the worst sports moment of my life, narrowly eclipsing the oilers-bills playoff game and the 1986 jesse orosco game

Apparently you are a big Cards fan who hates the astros and i respect the fact that you called them out on this forum, good for you, but how about you and i betting $1000 on the series? or more? please let me know...

I understand this may not be prohibted on the site but I trust about 50 of these guys enough to 'hold our money in escrow' if you want to bet me........and just in case your come back is (and should be) " why would i bet you straight up when i could get the cards at +180?", i will make the same bet if you win game 6

    im waitin

Shorty, I would love to bet you but when it comes to my home teams I never bet on them. It's a supersticion of mine because normally if I bet for my team they end up losing. I also don't post my plays on this forum because everytime I have I have been terribly unsuccessful. As you can see I'm a very supersticious person but you gotta have something to believe in right?
The 1927 Yankees weren't the best team ever. What everyone fails to realize is that the year before, with the exact same team, they lost to the Cardinals in the World Series.

I love hearing the little guy fired up!!!!!!!

Little surprised that last night's game hurt more than the Oilers/Bills playoff game, at least the 'Stros are still alive, compared to getting knocked out completely.

I can respect that. I'm a NY Giant fan. In the 1980s I never bet on the Giants. If they lost I was double pissed off. They lost and I lost my money. I would bet against them. This way if they won I wasn't too upset that I lost my bet.

I agree. I am a Packer fan. My favorite bet is a bet against the Packers when the Packers are the favorite. That way, I can hit the middle, Packers win but don't cover so I win the money. If the Pack wins and ******, at least they win and I don't mind losing the money. If they lose, the money I win eases the sting a little...

              GL to all...

                southern dandy, jordan...........

first jordan, you are right, it is not like me, but i think everybody here knows that is a serious gambler but even more serious sports fan that as a die-hard, you react differently than you do to losing money

i lost a mint this weekend betting college football, but it happens, it is life, part of gambling, but it has been 15 years since i have experienced something like that astros game..........i cant even describe the pain.........it is like the different levels people go through when they experience something tragic, shock, anger, depression, i surely have not been able to work these last 2 days without seeing the homerun in my head

i do not mean to be insensitive to the real human tragedies that we see every day like war, hurricanes or disease, but you know what , a lot of us are truly blessed to live charmed lives and for me, up until now, this may be the worst thing i have ever gone through............distantly worse than 4 days in the hospital from complications of surgery or being a student living in gainesville during the serial killings of 1990

and now that i have had a day to think about it, i am sort of laughing because i am exactly like frank, i bet a lot of st. louis in game 5, more on them tonight under the old "well it will offset my anger' theory, it doesnt...........as you guys know, i have had many weeks where i have won a lot of money and a lot where i have lost, but as a houston fan, i wonder if they will ever make it this far again........3 times in the last 25 years and all 3 have ended painfully, and if they lose this, we become sort of the like the cubs...............

i expect to lose, the astros are like the oilers and if not for akeem, the rockets would be the same..........and like i said, i do not have a problem with southern dandy coming on here and ripping the astros, they deserved it and as a cardinals fan, until proven otherwise the astros are their bitch, their laughing stock

                please let it end tonight!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Shorty I know the feeling. The only two times that I have totally been devastated over a sporting event were in 1986 in the Bill Buckner game as a 13 year old I literally started crying and than again two years ago on Boone's home run. Don't let anyone put you down because you take your sports team seriously. Those are usually the same people that are uncompetetive and have no fire which usually translates to their lack of professional sucess. Good luck on the Astros tonight

Not to brag(if you can call it that), but I doubt any of you have experienced as much pain as I have as Red Sox diehard since 1952(last year not withstanding).
There have been so many crushing ands/or tough losses, many in critical games over the years,(many of which were administered by the Yankees) that it is truly pathetic(and I am not just talking about 1967, 1975, 1986 or 2003 either).
Believe me, that homer by Pujois the other reminded me of the numerous times I have had the same feelings as any true Astro fan had!

Why don't you guys bet that if Astros win then Southern Daddy change his avatar to the Astros and Shorty you change to St Louis if they lose.
