  • Pinny Chess Picks!!!!!!!!!!! from BigJake, for you, you magnificent bastards!

Chess picks are here.... matches are on wednesday, and I'll post these before, but since I'm laying these down now, might as well make the extra effort and post em. I lost my one chess pick last week, but it was close. This week I've been looking at the odds for last week compared with performance, and I've decided there's big money to be made here. Well, big by my standards. I love you all...

P.S. - I may be moving to Reno... anybody heard good or bad things about it?

            adding...

hi folks, the match is tonight at 8:30

            adding...
            SFMechanics vs Philadelphia Masterminds
            Game matchups
            Vince McCambridge vs Norman Rogers
            PICK: Norman Rogers +196
Risking 2.00 to Win 3.92 units

ok, so I've been thinking about this alot. Looking at the previous performance of these players is a slight misnomer. You know how anyone can beat anyone on any given sunday in the NFL?
This is very similar to chess, deep blue loses to kasparov every other game!
Vince Mcambridge didn't play last week vs Carolina, and you know what? whoever is capping this match, whatever the outcome is, put the -200 on Vince, who hasn't won a match all year (from what I can tell on their website).
Norman Rogers has a similarly abysmal record but recently recorded his first win. Let's look for that trend to continue... at least we hope it will.
Thinking about taking Philadelphia team bet on this one, but not sure. SF dominated last week for the first time with some new talent on their team.

Kapt, I took another look at the play, I can see that Tegshsuren "the mad mongolian" Enkhbat is a strong match for lev "the moleman" Milman, but I'm sticking with my guns on this one. My only concern is molemans age... I found websites with their stats... perhaps we can make a better decision with the data. Both have been in the chess game for a long time, competed at high levels, and are generally very good at chess. This goes with my deep blue comment earlier.

                        Lev Milman
                        Age - 18

as for Enkhbat... he was hard to find initially, he was listed by his first name in the international chess database...

                        Age - 34
                        Rating - 2453
                        Style - Positional
Number of games in database: 30
                        Years covered: 1990 to 2004
Highest rating achieved in database: 2478
                        Overall record: +9 -13 =8 (43.3%)*

                        words about each...

                        Lev Milman

"is one of the most talented young players in America today. He made major headlines when he won the 2004 US Junior Championship (click here to read about it) and wasn't about to stop at that. He earned his first Grandmaster norm shortly thereafter in a strong international event in Los Angeles.

Lev possesses an exciting and action packed style which makes his games exciting to watch. He often plays dynamic and sacrificial openings, such as the Dragon Sicilian and even the Smith Morra Attack! On top of his talent he also works very hard on his chess and his opening repertoire. A few years ago, I remember showing him a line of the Dragon Sicilian that I considered myself an expert on. About 2 weeks later it seemed he knew everything that I knew about it and much more! I became the one begging him for the opening secrets.

Lev is also a fantastic student and was accepted into Duke University this fall. With a one-two punch of Kaminski and Milman on boards 1 and 2, the Cobras should be one of the most exciting teams in the USCL."

                        ENKHBAT,TEGSHSUREN

"This strong Mongolian born FM moved to the United States in 1997, and since then has been very active and successful in the American chess scene. For the past two years, Tegshsuren qualified for the prestigious US Chess Championship. These events must have been very pleasurable for Enkhbat, as he was joined in the event by his wife and Baltimore Kingfisher teammate, WIM Tsaagan Battsetseg.
Tegshusuren has a logical and positional style of play, as he plays slower d4/Nf3 variations with the white pieces. As is common amongst positionally minded players, Enkhbat plays the Caro-Kann Defense.
The Baltimore Kingfishers are fortunate to have one of the strongest husband and wife teams in the United States representing their team."

though I don't think I have autism, I'm not totally convinced you weren't kidding good luck to you Kapt, whatever you decide to do!

I can't find the results of tonights matches (and pinny has them still pending), and my alarm will go off early tomorrow...

thought this was interesting, it's a guy capping next week's matches. this chess guru tries to predict the outcomes of each match (presumably he does this every week from now on?). He only correctly predicted one matchup last week (or so the webmaster, making fun of him states.)
                          possible fade guide?

                            BigJake's week 8 chess picks

yeah, so, it's -5.65 units for the day (i think, terrible, terrible, terrible. Of course, miami losing 7 of 8 games really sunk me. I mean, they were terrible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So many ties too, wouldn't they play to best of three? I guess they aren't thinking about gamblers here....

pinnacle still hasn't posted the results, Here is what I found from one website. Sorry If I lost you guys any money... I'll try to keep the number of bets on chess down, and try to make better plays. That motherfucking Vince Mcambridge decided to kick ass tonight taking my Norman Rodgers pick (my darkhorse pick), and win outright, that miserable bastard.

I think I've learned a lot about this though, and will be able to make better decisions for next weeks matchups. I.e., SF and NY are clearly very strong now...
anyway, my depressing list of losers and ties is below...
