There's no doubt members of the pit crew are athletes.

We're NOT talking driving a leisurely Charleston to Miami run... we're talkin' about an INTENSE 500 Mi. Race in a Sauna , surrounded by assholes that want to push you into the wall, get you loose in every turn and get your position...concentrating for 3.5 to 4 hours !

Class is in session Learn what it takes to wheel a Nextel Cup machine .

CNN senior medical correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta will take a hard look at the safety procedures and athleticism it takes for the sport's top stars to succeed on the track in " NASCAR: Driven to Extremes" at 10 p.m. ET Sunday. Oct. 16

"The incredible strain on the human body from the heat, g-forces and the mental focus is like nothing I've seen before," Gupta said. "We're also going to give audiences a sense of how challenging it is to protect people at high speeds.

"We'll likely debunk quite a few misperceptions about the fitness and athleticism required to be a NASCAR racer."

They are not athletes because any Tom or Dick can train to drive a car. Give a real athlete proper training and they'd blow all those fucking pussies off the road. Any fucking moron can turn a steering wheel, press the gas and brake pedal.

Your analogy of GoCarts is way off base. Anything we don't normally do we are sore. When I don't play golf for a few weeks or month the next time I play I'm sore. My arms, hips and legs.

NASCAR racing is a joke. It is the only event where there's different rules for different teams/cars. If we want to talk about fixed sports NASCAR racing is fixed. Don't think for a 2nd that Bill France doesn't dictate who'll win the race. Anyone who doesn't think Dale Jrs. race at Daytona after is father dies was fixed than you're NAIVE. I equate NASCAR to wrestling.

I live in Daytona. The hot bed of NASCAR racing. Except for the hard core rednecks most residence have little interest in NASCAR. Most locals have no interest in going to the Daytona races. Daytona becomes a haven for rednecks during race weeks.

When I moved to FL in 1996 I became a NASCAR fan. I went to both Daytona races as well as the twin 125's. I watched most races on TV. The 125's is without question the most boring race anyone can watch. The drivers racing in the top-10 make no attempt at passing. They don't want to risk wrecking. They want to quilify for the 500. The racing goes on in the 10-15 spots.

The last 500 I went to I vowed never to go back. Watching single file racing for 500 miles was painful. There was virtually no passing. I know the rules have changed and restrictor plate racing has gotten more excited. Now I'll watch the last 10-20 laps of the Daytona 500. That's about it.

No one said NASCAR drivers aren't fit. It takes limited athletic skill to drive a race car. Almost all humans can do it with proper training. However, most humans will never hit a 70 MPH breaking ball after a 95 MPH fastball. Most humans can never play golf like the pros play.

Tens of millions of people play golf. What percentage make it as a pro? Maybe 1 in 1,000,000. Same holds true in baseball and basketball. Even with proper intense training most will never become a pro golfer or baseball player.

How many kids grow up driving race cars? Maybe 10,000 on a serious level. Out of that 10,000. We have roughly 100+ NASCAR, Busch and Craftsman Truck drivers. The chances of someone making it to the pros in racing far surpasses the other TRUE sports.

As I stated. ANYONE with some money and training can become a race car driver. ANYONE

It takes far more athletic skill to play golf than drive a race car.

Read my example in my previous post comparing race drivers to golfers and baseball players.

OK - Granted Jimmie Spencer is NOT much of an athlete ....but , Bill France never gave Dale Jr. squat....And , the biggest talent required for MLB ....is the ability to chew TABACCI w/o chokeing .
