  • Penalties in the NHL

    I haven't watched hockey for awhile, not since the Blackhawks were good in the early 90's, so I'm not certain about this. But has penalties gone up considerably this year? Just looking at the boxscore, Colorado was up 3-0, then were called for 9 of the next 10 penalties and have pissed away the lead.

    There were 19 penalties in the Montreal game, 7 in the 1st period of the San Jose game. I know there were some rules changes, is this why they are up, assuming they are?

      Barry Melrose on ESPN was saying yesterday penalties are up slightly. The difference has been the type of penalties that they are calling. I watched more hockey last night than I've watched in years. It was very entertaining. Lots of actions. With end to end hockey.

        The end to end hockey IS exciting...but the penelties really slow down the game....i've never seen so many 5 on 3's. As a major hockey fan i find it very annoying. If they want it this way, why not just have one team short handed 1 half of each period
        1 = $25

          I disagree. Powerplays, 4 on 4 and 5 on 3 makes for exciting hockey.

          IMO the penalties will eventually go down. The players will learn to adjust. The NHL had to make the rule changes. The sport became a big joke. There was no action.
