  • Calling out scottya, kuelkat and meaiken........

Outstanding work by the 3 of you taking the angels tonight.......Perfect example of why i am primarily a college sports handicapper who puts out between 10-15 pro picks a year........all day long all we heard was about the angels travel , in fact one idiot from espn went as far to say it was morally wrong that the angels had to play tonight.....morally wrong???

I myself did not play the white sox-angels game because like an idiot, i too fell for the whole 'angels are tired routine'.however, i thought the line would be -130 and it ended up like -190.........of course, like a freaking moron who is new to this, i did not take the angels....i rarely kick myself for not making a bet but why i couldnt figure out that me, as a 34 year old sloth is still running on fumes and adrenaline as a die hard astros fan couldnt figure out that the angels would have 10 times that energy after beating the yankees means i am a fucking moron that feels like i lost a 10* play tonight

so the 3 of you deserve massive props for not falling for the idiotic media sensation .............to all of us who either had the white sox or didnt bet, we are all morons on this night

    good luck

Shorty, I played the Chisox today. Not because of the travel but because of Contreras. I didn't buy into the travel angle at all. I've watched sports long enough to know that the team that sits around waiting for the other series to end usually comes out flat. I've seen it many time in baseball, hockey and basketball. Teams coming off the high of winning a long series seem to carry that momentum into game 1.

      Frank........

i am just so f***ing pissed that tonight i fell into the traveling trap and did not take the angels once they got up to +180.......last night i feel for my own little "man, the chargers are great" and took san diego

so i am just venting........you know how it is, sometimes not betting gets you as angry as losing and doing stupid things makes me more angry.......i can obviously respect those who took the white sox for whatever reason but i myself chose not to take anaheim solely b/c of the traveling trap

Its funny-I still remember a hockey game(god it must be over 30 years ago), where the Bruins (Bobby Orr days) were coming off a tough loss on Saturday night on the road.
The story has it the players had very little sleep, the plane was late and arrived just a few hours before game time and they were about to play a team which was really hot;it was either St. Louis nor Chicago(I don't remember which).
Anyways, being fairly new at gambling, I figured there was no way Bruins could win and bet the team playing them; well, you guessed it-the Bruins went into the hostile rink and won EASILY-something like 5-1;needless to say a valuable lesson was learned, and every time there are similar circumstances like tonight(granted Anaheim won last night whereas in my example the Bruins lost), the story comes to mind.

          Shorty...

Very well put..... also Tony Vegas and Chiefsfan had the right idea...
I know how you feel.... i am pissed i didn't take the Angels on Monday night..... and you are still smarter than this moron who actually took the Sux..... Clemens, Johnson and Contreras all lost starts in the post season, maybe we should be careful with the over-40 starters (over 60 in Contreras's case) this late in the season...

Let's not forget the other factor. The Sox probably took the Angels lightly expecting a tired team and a let down. They got neither.

Frank-good point. And don't forget all the times when a key player is out for a team and everyone jumps on the OTHER team and then usually loses-same logic.

I agree. Most like to play against the team with a key player injured. I often do the opposite. I like playing on the team with the injury. Especially, in the NBA.

First, we get good line value

Second, the opposing team probably lets down a little.

Mostly, tell the injured player's teammates they can't win without their star. Usually they put out a great effort the first few games.

I echoed this statement many times in the NBA last season.

And don't forget someone who doesn't get much playing time usually might get some more because of the injury, and he obviously will want to put on a show for the coach and management.

SAVAGE1 AND FRANKB, ACCORDING TO STAR PLAYER IS OUT/INJURED SYSTEM,
THE NEW ORLEANS SAINTS WOULD BE A GOOD PICK THIS WEEK BECAUSE DEUCE McALLISTER IS OUT FOR THE SEASON, RIGHT???

all tonight does it prove the betting public knows nothing.... over 70% were on the sox and I was one of them.... its just one of those games that you wanted to take the Angels and couldnt bring yourself to do it

as for the Saints comment.... that is absolutely ridiculous.... you lose your number one RB and Joe Horn was hurt last game.... dont know if hes playing or not havnt checked yet.... the Saints wont be able to run the ball.... that is just being a sarcastic prick right there

Let's also remember that the Angels starting pitcher had normal rest and he shut the White Sox down. Flat or not, rested or not, if the rested starting pitcher throws goose eggs for most of the game, it almost doesn't matter how "tired" the position players were.

First I would also like to Congrats those guys, but Shorty you are totally wrong about all this stuff.
The fact of the matter is that Contreras had 1bad inning and The CWS hit the shit out of Byrd but right to his players.....The CWS also ran the self out of alot of innings.
                            Don't surgarcoat it anyother way....
LAA got the win by great coaching by Mike S. and alot of luck.

Thanks phonepole for the "Big Ups"

My theory is simple. Anytime information that is known by EVERYONE in the world, isn't really information. One thing I hate most is when I bet on a team and then turn on the TV and the pre game show is picking the same thing or giving an angle on why that team should win. KISS OF DEATH!

More times then not, teams playing on very little sleep and after tough games are playing on adrenaline. Factor in that Byrd was already in Chicago and the White Sox had been relaxing for days, I just thought the line value on the Angels was too great.

And Chuckie, I disagree that the Angels win was a lot of luck. They are VERY good team, as are the White Sox, that plays small ball and does the right thing. To say Contreas had one bad inning is what us Yankee fans were saying throughout his stay in NYC. The guy always looks great but will have one bad inning that cost his team. He had avoided that during his great second half run. He is NOT a big game pitcher and that will come to light.
