  • frankb03 same situation as Colo. St. saturday night

Somebody tell Bill Cowher to call COLO. ST. coach. You dont go for 2 when your up 4. Only difference is more time was left in this game...

    Hey J

I talked it over with Frank ( very briefly ) yesterday morning and forgetting about the pointspread agenda my question is: Why would a coach NOT go for 2 up by 4 ?

5 means nothing but 6 could be significant.

In all fairness to you , the whole issue really depends on how far into the game does this situation arise.

I'd kick the extra point in the 1st half but definitely go for 2 in the 4th quarter.

When did Sonny Lubick and Bill Cowher go for 2 ?

    Best Regards,

    Neil

I agree almost fully. I wouldnt go for two up by four until really LATE in the 4th quarter. I realize that being up 6 could be the difference rather than being up 5 but with several minutes left in the game, if the opposing team scores there are multiple scenaios where the extra 1 point you chose not to take, could lose you the game.

Sonny Lubick went for two 3x in the 4th quarter, and failed all three times, on Saturday night. the final time up by 4 with 1+ mins remaining. Needless to say the number was 4.5.

Cowher went for the extra point up by four last night with about 7+ mins remaining and that ceratinly played a role as SD scored went for two, missed and then the final FG by Pitt w/ seconds left...

I'd never go for 2 up 4 points. I've seen more often than not when a team goes for 2 early in the game it comes back to haunt them later.

Thats true Frank! Didn't Col State go for two 3 times, and miss all three? If so, if they would have went for 1 each time, that would have put them up a touch, and I wouldn't have got screwed with the 4.5

The rule that I have always heard about going for two is that you don't go for two....UNTIL YOU HAVE TO!!!
