My Baseball Best Bet of the Year

My 4* baseball Play of the Year was a bet on the Angels to win the Yankees series: a 4* play at +130. With it all riding tonite, I am going to hedge back and take a 1* on the Yankees tonite at +104. However, I am not posting this as a play and will not count it in my record as I believe the Angels will win tonite's game. I would recommend a Yankees bet only if you bet the Angels in the series and only at a small fraction of the series play.

Hey Gris.....you give any thought to playing the Yanks +1.5 -210?

In any other situation I would never lay 210, however here I think it makes some sense. Here is my thought process, assuming that 1 unit = $100.

As it stands now you have 4 units on LAA (400 to win 520). If you put 1 unit on NYY @ +104, you are locking in 1 of the following senarios:

LAA wins +420,
NYY wins -296.

If you put 1 unit on NYY +1.5 -210, you would have the following senarios:
LAA wins by 1+ runs = +310
LAA wins by 1 run = +620
NYY wins = -300

It may be worth it because it has no effect on you if NYY wins, eats into some of your profit if LAA wins big, but gives you a good shot at winning both bets if LAA wins by 1 run (which I have to think is a good possibility given it being a game 5....I'm sure that FrankB would know the % of 1 run games in deciding playoff games...)

That's pretty creative stuff. I would normally make a rather large hedge bet (because I bet conservatively) but I have a strong opinion on the Angels tonite. I think elderly Mussina gets shelled.
