Astros Slight Favorite Over Atlanta
With the Braves in an 0-1 hole, no better pitcher to turn to than the guy with the most post-season wins of all-time, John Smoltz. Smoltz, who has 14 post-season wins in his career, is 6-0 with a 2.68 ERA in 14 Division Series appearances. He's also been strong down the stretch for Atlanta this season, losing just two of his final 20 starts with the Braves winning 17 of those contests. But Smoltz faces the ultimate matchup in seven-time Cy Young winner Roger Clemens. While Clemens record was only 13-8, much of that was due to a lack of run support. The 43-year-old veteran posted a league-best 1.87 ERA, including 1.32 in 15 starts on the road. In his last start on Saturday, the Astros were able to get him just enough runs to beat the Cubs, 3-1, in a game Houston needed to hold the Wild Card lead. Yesterday the Astros offense picked it up a bit in a 10-5 win in Game 1. Anything approaching that production today could put Atlanta in an 0-2 hole going back to Houston. Dunkel has the Astros favored by a 1/2 run today with a run total of 7.
