Angels Slight Favorite Over Yanks
New York jumped on Angels' ace Bartolo Colon early last night and got a solid pitching performance from Mike Mussina to go up 1-0 in their best-of-five series. The Yankees could certainly put themselves in great position by stealing Game 2 tonight in Anaheim before heading back to the Bronx. But they'll have to face the star from the 2002 post-season in pitcher John Lackey, who won three games that year during the Angels' improbable run. Lackey has been solid down the stretch this season and had two strong outings against New York this year in which he allowed just three earned runs in 10 2/3 innings while winning both decisions. He'll face Yankee rookie Chien-Ming Wang. Wang was the Yankees' most consistent starter in the first half, but has been average (2-2, 4.23) since coming back from a shoulder injury, including taking the loss last Friday night in Boston. With Wang on the road again, the Angels have a good shot at getting some runs to back Lackey tonight and even the series. Dunkel has Angels favored by 1/2 a run with a run total of 9.
