      Wednesday's Games
Starting pitchers' stats aren't as critical as they are during regular season, since managers will have quicker hook in these playoff games. Fifth starters during regular season are now long men in bullpen; pitching quality is better.

Pettitte is 7-0, 1.63 in his last nine starts; Astro bullpen lost his last two starts. Under is 5-2-1 in his last 8 road starts. Pettitte lost 4-1 at Turner Field May 7, allowing three runs in seven IP. Hudson is 2-2, 5.06 in his last four starts; he shut Astros out for nine innings at Juice Box on April 18, in game Braves later won, 1-0. Atlanta is 7-2 in his last nine starts, overall, 4-1 in last five at home.

Red Sox are 6-2 in last eight Wells starts, despite a 5.90 RA in his last five outings. Over is 5-2 in Wells' last seven road starts; he gave up five runs in 6.2 IP at this site on August 12, in game Boston later won, 9-8. Buehrle has allowed just one run in last 14.2 IP; Pale Hose won his last three outings. Buehrle was losing pitcher in that 9-8 game mentioned above; allowing six runs in 7.2 IP; he also gave up five runs in six IP in 6-5 Red Sox win back on July 21.

Angels won Lackey's last four starts, are 5-1 in his last six Anaheim starts; he is 2-0, 2.61 vs Bronx this season, going 5 and 5.1 IP. Under is 6-2 in his last eight outings. Wang is 2-2, 6.32 in six road starts this season; five of those six games stayed under total. Wang is 2-1, 4.44 in four start since coming off DL in early September. This is his first start against the Angels.

        Wednesday's game
Last time Miami faced Northern Illinois, three years ago, they led 27-7 in third quarter, held ball for over 44:00 and somehow lost 48-41, as 8-point favorites. Miami is on two-game win streak (27-10/44-16); three of last 4 games went over total. Red Hawks are 8-6 in last 14 as a road underdog, 0-1 this season.

NIU is 1-3, losing its last game in OT at home vs Akron as a 6.5-point road favorite- they also lost another game 38-37 at Northwestern when they went for two on final play, and not the tying PAT, so they're little snakebit. Huskies are minus-7 in turnovers this season- their only win was vs a I-AA team. All three NIU losses were on road; they've covered 11 of their last 15 home games.
