  • Why does everyone like SD today?

I would think with St. Louis playing at home with their lineup that everyone would be on them. Alot of guys here like SD so I was wondering why?

my guess is that Carpenter has struggled recently, and the Padres have Peavy going. If they are going to have any chance, they have to win today. Side note....road teams have gone 8-4 the past three years in Game 1 of the division series. Overs are 9-3!

Because of Peavy and Carpenter struggling at the end of the season....What's so misleading is that St Louis won their division so early that they rested alot of players to get them healthy for the playoffs and it just so happened to be when Carpenter pitched......
The Cards will show why they have the better team!!

The better team does not always win though. I'm still in learning mode with this baseball crap, and there were many times this year for me that the better team-heavy fav-did not win. GL with the Cards.

I agree. It makes no sense to me either. People have too much money on their hands I guess.
The 1927 Yankees weren't the best team ever. What everyone fails to realize is that the year before, with the exact same team, they lost to the Cardinals in the World Series.

                      LOL

Every quality capper I follow in bases played SD, seriously, every single one. Sometimes i don't understand the "value" argument when you are betting on the wrong team, there's not much value in losing money.

This post is not directed at anyone in particular, I visit different sites.

I didn't bet either the game or the total;I must say I also stared in disbelief and wondered why so many people would pick the crappy Padres,(who should be at home watching someone else play St. Louis) to defeat St. Louis in the first game of what has to be a very focused team(the Cardinals).
Regular season game ok but in the first game of the playoffs in ST. LOUIS where the Cards are trying to make up for last year, no way!

By value, people mean that the payouts are better than expected. I figured that since Peavy had been on a hot streak and Carpenter has not been pitching well of late that Peavy should be around +125, but since it was at +175 it was a good value. The reasoning is that when you play a team that is undervalued by the books, you still have less than 50% chance of winning, but if you play enough games, you will come out ahead because the payouts are better than they should be.
