sorry to hear RJ.....life happens for no apparent reason.....prayers with you and your family....

it would take no money for me....that would constitute i had a problem i think......i do it when i want to....not as a source of income....although i usually am up for the year......i guess it is like asking how much would i have to give you to lose weight......i take pride in my discipline regardless of what area of my life and would not require a sum of money......but i will play along and say $50,000 total

Considering the time it would save me from traveling and handicapping my games i would be willing to take $4 Million even instead of the $4.5 Million i would normally earn. My Beamers need gas and with the prices going up there i really couldn't settle for any less!

This one is pretty far fetched and yet I think the answers might give us all an insight into how important gambling is in our lives.
          Anyways the question is this:
Lets say that today somehow a millionaire or higher power from the hereafter contacted you and asked you this-how much money is the MINIMUM amount you would take in order for you to stop sports gambling for 5 years starting from the time you received the money(which would be today), and obviously there was no question that you would receive the money if you agreed.
The bet would mean you could not bet with your local, offshore, wife, friend or in any way in which money was on the line no matter how little it was.
Lets be a little more absurd and say that somehow if you agreed to the terms, it would be impossible for you to cheat(don't ask me to elaborate on how this would be possible, as I cannot).
So in short, please state the amount required for your for the 5 years or perhaps say you wouldn't the offer at all because you feel the need to gamble.
I will respond with my own answer later;I have to think about this one myself. lol
ps It goes without saying that after the 5 years, you could return to gambling.
I'd do it for $500 or $1000 each month. I'd continue to cap the games. I enjoy capping the games more than actually betting them.

Inasmuch as it appears everyone has either read or responded to this, I want to give you my take:
All of the answers were interesting and some funny to say the least;Wayne, your first reponse was great and obviously your second was also;you are the envy of every gamler out there to have a gal like that.
Sandman-actually what you said was actually true in my case a long time ago:
I stopped gambling for a while 20+ years ago because I was losing;that was the good news.
The bad news is that I DIDN'T stop buying options to which I was already addicted and put even more time, money and effort into buying them;the results were not pretty! Thus I simply traded one type of gambling for another, and actually options are worse because you can lose your money very quickly and the odds are stacked against you(the fixes in the market dwindle those in sports gambling).
Getting back to the question which is the subject matter of my post, here is my answer:
Actually, to be perfectly honest, the question for ME should be how much would it take for me NOT to criticize Nor thcoast, Jack Price, Stu Feiner and other services for 5 years and not how much to stop gambling. lol
ok, now in all reality re: gambling, for me it is a tough question because being older and having enough money to do what I want to right now, I am not sure a money incentive alone would be enough.
Sure, the thought of $100K to 500K upfront now and taxfree sounds great to me;on the other hand, like you guys I derive excitement(or is is masochism?) from the thrill of winning a bet, or having a 5 team parlay with 4 sides already and hoping the last piece wins, or watching a three pointer go up at the buzzer, the success of which will determine whether you win your bet or not, needing one last score as time winds down in a football game to win a side or total bet, etc.
As I think many of you would agree, above are some of the thrills we receive from gambling, and the money we win or lose betting is the incentive which determines whether we succeed or fail.
I am not sure at least for me that simply receiving large sum of money could replace the need to gamble for me and it appears that at least some of you from your reponses agree.
I guess my final response is for me I don't know;I guess it would come down to a game time decision if the money and offer was actually made to me.
In any case, thanks again for all the reponses and stay tuned for the next question which will be forthcoming shortly.
