MONDAY, OCTOBER 3 - NFL
Carolina* 131.6 (7) Green Bay 124.6
Total Points: 43
Carolina and Green Bay will reprise their meeting from a year ago in tonight's MNF contest. For Carolina, last year's game was the beginning of a painful season. WR Steve Smith broke his leg late in the fourth quarter starting a string of injuries that knocked the defending NFC champs all the way to 7-9. But Smith is healthy and last week had 11 catches for 170 yards and three TDs. And despite Carolina's disappointing 1-2 start, there is still optimism that this team can make another run. There is no such optimism in Green Bay right now. An 0-3 start combined with a depleted roster and an aging Brett Favre have the Packer faithful wondering if this is the end. Last week Favre threw three INTs and Ryan Longwell missed his first PAT in 157 attempts as the Packers lost to Tampa Bay, 17-16. It highlighted the misfortune of Green Bay, but also an attitude that kept them in the game. Desperately needing a win, Green Bay should bring the same type of toughness to tonight's contest. But in the end Carolina's talent combined with the home field should be too much. Dunkel has the Panthers favored by 7 with a point total of 43.
