Week 4 NFL Monday night action
Packers @ Panthers- Green Bay won six of eight series games, winning last three, but at 0-3, Pack is in trouble; they have 30th-ranked red zone defense (5.86), 26th black zone defense (2.43), and have forced only seven 3-and-outs on 30 drives (27th). Pack has one takeaway in three games; their minus-8 turnover ratio is worst in NFL, and now they visit Panther squad reeling from upset loss at Miami. Carolina's defense seems to be problem; they're 26th on 3rd down (45%), 23rd in red zone (4.89), 22nd in black zone (three 80+ yard TD drives in 13 tries), and only nine 3-and-outs forced in 32 drives. Tough to give Favre more than TD, especially in national spotlight, but Carolina superior team here.

          13) The six QB's active for Jet-Raven game might be the worst set of QB's ever for any NFL game. What a dismal game to watch; I fully expected a punt on first down. Will Jets pull trigger on a trade? Either way, it looks possible that their 2005 could be a train wreck.

By the way, the six QB's are: Bollinger-Kingsbury and 42-year old Testaverde......Wright-Anderson-Stewart Arenaball games have better passers.

          12) But please, Jets, don't suggest that Chris Simms is the answer; he isn't, unless the question is, How do we get Herm Edwards fired? Kitma, Volek, Rivers are all viable options, but do not trade for young Simms.

          11) First half of Ram-Giant game ended at 3:00; very long half, filled with plenty of poor defense. Someone in St Louis needs to watch the NFL Network, so they know who the best receiver on each team is- Plaxico Burress looked like combo of Jerry Rice/Randy Moss and Lance Alworth in the first half. Couldn't cover him or wouldn't cover him, but sure didn't cover him.

          10) Lot more punts downed near goal line on the new artifical turf fields, which are less bouncy.

          9) Joe Theismann must have something against Kurt Warner; when he went on air, backed Marc Bulger in QB competition vs Warner in St Louis, I figured it was because Bulger's father is old college buddy. But he did it once again Sunday night, saying Arizona should stick with McCown. Would be nice to know why.

          8) In two home games, 49ers scored six TD's on 22 drives; in two road losses, they scored zero TD's on 23 drives. Their defense looked shot in second half last night, as Cardinals scored on seven straight drives.

          7) By the way. Mexico City's elevation is 2,000 feet higher than Denver's Mile High altitude; conditioning is obviously a huge factor in any event there.

          6) Chargers outrushed Patriots 183-73, as champs, at 2-2, have yet to run for 100+ yards in a game.

          5) Cardinals and Saints shared field position honors, with plus-17 edges in average starting position. That is a huge statistic, encompassing turnovers, special teams and should not be overlooked.

          4) In his post-game press conference, Michael Vick said next week's Falcon-Patriot game should be good game, since "...both teams have great quarterbacks.." Not so fast, fella.......only the Patriots do.

          3) Rams threw 62 passes Sunday; Bulger was sacked only once. Good job by rookie Alex Barron at tackle but this team just doesn't play consistently enough to beat a good team at home, much less on the road.

          2) Charger situation is so interesting, as Brees leads team to another 40+-point performance, while rookie Rivers, albeit a second-year rookie, sits, waits. Good chance for Chargers to make a killing by trading him to QB-hungry team (Jets?).

          1) So you combine the way the Rams played defense Sunday, with the way the Jets played offense, and you can understand how Cumberland College once lost a game to Georgia Tech, 222-0. They were that bad.
