NCAA Football - 10/8
I'm jumping on these now, I don't expect the line to move in my favor later in the week. I'll edit this tread later in the week with write ups on these games.
NCAA Football
10 STAR: Ohio State (-2.5) OVER PENN STATE
Risking $1100 to win $1000

I'm still not sold on Penn State. I was on the losing side last week backing Minnesota going into Happy Valley, but that loss helps to set up a play on OSU this week. The 44-14 ass kicking that the Nittany Lions laid on Minnesota did a couple of things that help this play on Ohio State. First of all, it keeps this line way down. Ohio State has been a 6.5 point and 7.5 point road favorite in their last two trips to Penn State, so there is certainly value in this line. Secondly, it gets the attention of the Buckeyes. Ohio State had a bye last week to get ready for this game. With Michigan State up next after this game, there might have been some looking ahead by the OSU players. But with a 30 point ass kicking against the Gophers, PSU should have the Buckeyes full attention. Penn State played an almost perfect game against a Minnesota team that had just cracked the top 20. This was the Nittany Lions first win over a ranked team since beating Wisconsin in 2002, I don't see them pulling it off in back to back weeks. Penn State is 1-8 against the spread after a home win over the last 3 seasons, 0-6 against the spread after a win by 21 or more points over the last 3 seasons and only 1-8 against the spread after one or more consecutive wins against the spread over the last 3 seasons. Ohio State is a much better team than Minnesota. The OSU defense is one of the best units in division 1 and ranks #5 in the nation in total defense. The PSU offense is a run first offense and I expect for them to struggle against the Buckeyes. Penn State is only 4-13 against the spread versus defensive teams that are allowing 285 or less yards per game since 1992 and the Buckeyes have been great against running teams posting a record of 25-12 against the spread versus teams that are averaging 200 or more rushing yards per game. The OSU offense is coming of age with Troy Smith at quarterback and the emergence of running back Antonio Pittman who ran for 171 yards against the Hawkeyes in their last game. Also I think special teams will be a factor here with Ohio States excellent kick returners playing a big part in this game. Bottom line, I look for Penn State to come back down to Earth after last weeks huge win and for the OSU defense to be disruptive to the Nittany Lions offense causing some turnovers and some easy OSU scores. Lay the points here!
5 STAR: VIRGINIA TECH (-35) OVER Marshall

As you guys know by now, I have been riding Virginia Tech all season and will continue to do so here. Marshall does not have the talent level of years past on this team. In the last two weeks they have lost to Central Florida, a team that had not won a game in two years and then struggled to beat SMU at home last week. The Central Florida game was their only road trip so far this season and it resulted in a 10 point loss to one of the worst teams in division one football. This week they travel to Blacksburg to face one of the best teams in division one football. This will be a massacre. The Hokies defense will be all over the Thundering Herd offense that is 88th in the nation in scoring, 107th in the nation in 3rd down conversions and 92nd in the nation in turnover margin. We know how good the Virginia Tech special teams are, and the Thundering Herd are on of the worst teams in the nation at covering punts, so this plays right into the hands of "Beamer Ball." I don't expect Marshall to put many points on the board in this game and Virginia Tech is 9-0 against the spread when they allow 14 or less points over the last 2 seasons. The Hokies are also 6-0 against the spread in non-conference games over the last 2 seasons and will look to put the hurt on another weaker foe here. Marshall is 0-7 against the spread after a home win against a conference rival over the last 3 seasons and teams off a win by 3 points or less over a conference rival, that have nine or fewer total starters returning from last years team (Marshall has six) are only 17-46 against the spread over the last 10 seasons. Lay the chalk here and get on the Hokies bandwagon!
3 STAR: MIAMI-FLORIDA (-35) OVER Duke
Risking $330 to win $300

The Duke offense is one of the worst in the nation ranking 102nd in scoring offense averaging about 17 points a game. They will have a hard time getting to their average in this game against a Hurricanes defense that is 11th in the nation in scoring defense allowing 12 points per game. Against the best two defense that the Blue Devils have played they were shutout by Virginia Tech and only scored 7 points against Virginia. Miami is 53-20 against the spread when they allow 14 or less points since 1992 and I don't see Duke even getting to 14 in this game. The Hurricanes offense has not had a break out game yet this season, but it should happen here. The Duke defense will be on the field so much in this game that the Canes will wear them down and run up some easy scores. Road teams that have lost 2 out of their last 3 games and have a winning percentage of 25% or less when playing a team with a winning record are only 33-70 against the spread over the last 10 seasons. Lay the chalk here as Miami takes Duke behind the wood shed!
