I saw those chess bets on PS earlier... really wanted to post some picks, but just couldn't find out enough information to make a sound decision. I do know that the bottom five picks are not slouches, and could take the title. thought the lines were outrageous for the non top pick (V. Anand)... took $1 on the five least non favorites, some payout at 35 to one! Does this seem stupid (there are eight contenders)? I don't follow FIDE like I used to when I was competing.... (um, yeah right Jake).
What do you think about these as cover bets?
P. Svidler +1621 Risk To Win
J. Polgar +1841 Risk To Win
M. Adams +1815 Risk To Win
A. Morozevich +1776 Risk To Win
R. Kasimdzhanov +3500 Risk To Win
I don't care how good V. Anand is, even deep blue loses one of every one match with Kasparov, and it makes teraflop calculations every second.... by which I mean Chess, though infused with talent, is slightly a game of luck... sorta. Kasparov states that the problem with Deep blue or any chess player for that matter is that, yes, it can make decisions based on 15 moves ahead, but it still has to make a decision, which leads it down a path that its opponent reacts to. Often the computer will get locked in a board position in which it cannot win, no matter how many calculations it makes. Sooo....
I take that to mean that Chess is basically like that arcade game tron with the motorbikes..
Good luck to all you chess bettors!
