Friday Night Special brings us to the Sun Bowl where the UTEP Miners have been 10 - 5 S/U and 6 - 2 ATS since 1992. The Miners had a great year last year with first year coach Mike Price. The Miners return 11 starters 6 on offense and returning their QB Jordan Palmer...Baby bro of Carson.
Houston is coached by Art Briles in his 3rd year and a record of 10 -14. The cougars return 16 starters and their returning QB in Kevin Kolb. Kolb a Jr. now has some impressive stats. As a QB as a freshman he led all QB's in his class in completions,attempts,yards, td's and even more important wins. Ironically Kolbs first TD came on a wishbone run vs Rice then vs TCU he had 578 total yards o offense becoming just the forth QB in NCAA history to top 400 yards passing and 100 yards running in a single game. His overall stats were impressive with 3,131 yards 61% with a 25-6 ratio and 598 gross rush yards and also setting CUSA record for interception % of 1.67%.
Houston opened the season aganist Oregon and gave the Ducks all they could handle at home losing 24-38.
My pick for this evening:
HOUSTON/UTEP- OVER 62 PTS. ( 4 UNITS )
HOUSTON + 12 ( 2 UNITS )
Look for a long game as both these QB's will have the ball in the air all night long.
