Like the article says, he is not the highest paid coach for his academic all-americans. His job is to win games!

Interesting article from Skip, that's the sad fact about the majority of the athletes. They are there to play football, not get an education. It would be interesting to look at the Oklahoma players from 5 years ago and see what they are doing for employment (this doesn't just apply to Oklahoma, but a majority of these schools known for their sports programs). I'm guessing that less than a quarter of them got degrees and most of them are working minimum wage jobs and asking if you want fries with your burger.

I know KB...but no disrespect to OU, cause I know your a fan, but you know where I'm going with it I think.

So what we're seeing here is one man who is trying to save his job instead of being a teacher and a role model to a player who greatly needs education.

            And at what price?

That's why I will ALWAYS respect coaches like Tyrone Willingham more and more after articles like that.

Anyone remember this test from Jim Harrick Jr?

                      Final Exam: Harrick's Basketball 101
                      SportsNation

The life of a college basketball player is tougher than you might think. Yes, they get to travel, play a game they love and be adored by legions of fans. But the tests. The horrific tests.

If you were enrolled in Jim Harrick Jr.'s Coaching Principles and Strategies of Basketball course at the University of Georgia in the fall of 2001, you were drilled on such subjects as basketball, basketball and even basketball.

How many points for a field goal? What league does Georgia compete in? What color are the uniforms? These are just a few of the piercing questions Harrick inflicted on his class.

Take the test and see if you pass.

Stoops, and his winning ways are about 12-14 Million $ a year to the Big 12 and Ok....Other coaches have done the same....i, e, Bobby Bowden when his kicker Janakowski (???Spelling and name) got into all kinds of trouble the day before a Bowl game, and he played....How much respect do you have for him...

Joe Paterno had a QB a while back, and he stayed in trouble, Joe P let him play, till the media got so down on him, he had to make changes.....

This is not uncommon in NCAA football........., it's a multimillion $ business when it omes to sports.....Louisvilles Basketball team a while back had gone several years without a starte gtaduating, but they played....

Do I agrre with it, Hell no, but lets not make believe that Stoops is the only one who does this shit....They all do...The reason it was publicized is because Okla establishe its own internal guidelines for missing classes....Most of em don't have it, and hide that fact.............

Some of you say you lost respect for Stoops, I lost respect for a number of College coaches 45-50 years ago, when they started making more money thab the President of the college does...Its now a way of life....Money talks........some schools specialize in Sports first, academics second (the majority does), some priortize education first, and sports second, which is how it should be, (very few do).........

I don't agree with the penalty put on Pederson (not severe enough), but how many coaches would do differently...

Lou Holtz has my utmost respect when he held out 5 starters in a Bowl game for team violations...Thats a class act, but there is very few Lou Holtzes........

Stoops is just another Coach, on a high profile team, payed to win, win, win.......

I repeat, he's no different than 75 % of em would have done...kapt

Do you think OU is the only place where this phenomenon exists? Bayless definitely cut right to the point in his article. For those athletes who are interested in getting an education, they can get a pretty good one at OU, though. When David Boren became OU's President about 10 or 12 years ago, he said he wanted to build a University that the football team could be proud of. :-) And he's done pretty well in that regard. For example, OU has the highest per capita enrollment of National Merit Scholars of any Public University in the USA. But I don't think Adrian Petersen is one of them.

Very well put, but its sad that in today's society we're making excuses for this man, and the 75% of the others.

BTW...don't go so high and mighty on Lou....every school he's left has been mired with school violations (see ND and SC)

It's a discussion I won't win I know...but saying it's ok because everyone else is doing it DOESN"T MAKE IT RIGHT.
