Eagles @ Falcons- Johnson's defense has quickness, maturity to contain lightning-quick Vick. Whether he can pass well enough to beat this defense remains in doubt. Philly signing of Dolphin reject Lamar Gordon at RB a sign their run game is not good; and unless Owens 100%, their passing game lacking at WR, too. Rematch of last year's NFC title game; Philly won last four series games by average score of 27-10, with two of those contests
(20-6/27-10) in playoffs. Monday night home dogs are historically strong, but Reid has been primetime master (8-2 in last ten).

                13) They took the opening kickoff, drove 80 yards in 15 plays, taking 9:37 off the clock- they broke tackles converted third downs, and did previously un-Saintlike things. New Orleans, at least for 2005, is America's Team. They just beat the best team in their division on the road- they are a threat to win the NFC South.

Remember where you heard it first, and you read it here last week: Saints will win Super Bowl in Detroit.

                12) Of course, the little detail of where their home tilts will be played has yet to be determined. Players want to play in San Antonio, because that is where they're living; Baton Rouge is five hours or so away, by bus. Politics is at play, since Saints were rumored to be on their way to the Alamo before the hurricane. Hopefully they'll let the players live as normally as possible and have Saint home game in the Alamodome.

                11) Meanwhile, Seattle fumbled away opening kickoff in their game, and Rams stepped out of bounds on the 1-yard line fielding their opening kick; both ominous beginnings to dreadful performances. 49ers were only NFC West team to win in Week One.

                10) Rams' special teams coaches get fired every year, and yet, Rams' special teams continue to be terrible; in first half alone Sunday, they allowed punt return for a TD, botched the opening kickoff, and allowed 49ers to recover an onside kick. Deja vu all over again.

                9) Packers had 14 penalties for 100 yards; Lions had only four for 38 yards, as Detroit won for just second time in last thirteen games vs Green Bay.

                8) Minnesota was supposed to be better without #84, but they turned ball over first three times they had it; their only TD was scored by the defense.

                7) Miami 34, Denver 10. Broncos spent its 3rd round draft pick on Maurice Clarett, traded for Ron Dayne, when they could have traded pick for Travis Henry. In the post-Elway era, Broncos have zero playoff wins. This will not be a fun week in the Mile High City.

                6) Dallas converted seven of 11 on third down, as the Bledsoe era got off to a happy start. Four TD's, and no field goal tries, means Dallas was efficient.

                5) On their first two drives, Chiefs ran 15 plays for a whopping 170 yards and two TD's. Improved Chief defense held Jets to 57 yards rushing.

                4) Texans threw 21 passes, gained 25 yards; they had five turnovers on 49 plays, and were minus-14 yards in average starting field position. Buffalo was plus-5 in turnovers, but scored just one TD in 22-7 win, not a good omen for when young Losman goes on road.

                3) Cincinnati won a Week One road game for the first time in a decade, as Palmer was 26-34 for 272 yards.

                2) Lousy night for Ravens, who lost QB Boller, which leaves Anthony Wright at QB, with rookie Anderson in reserve. Looks like Jesse Palmer might be getting a call, since he should know Jim Fassel's system.

                1) Giants returned a punt and a kick for TD's, as they trailed 13-7 at half, then scored two TD's in first 3:30 of third quarter. Arizona ran ball 21 times for 31 yards and averaged just 4.9 yards per pass attempt. The last time Giants scored this many points on Opening Day was 1971, in 42-40 win over Packers.
