In general I don’t like Sunday baseball because many starters take the day off as we proceed throughout the season. But that shouldn’t be the case tonight with the Giants and Dodgers. Hideo Nomo has now lost three consecutive starts and what has to concern the Dodgers is the six walks he allowed in his last start. The reason Nomo has been somewhat of a journeyman in his career is his occasional lapses of control. Giving free passes to the 15-2 San Francisco Giants is probably not a great idea right now. The Giants are 8-0 on the road this year and this kind of start has made their beloved followers forget the names of Dusty Baker and Jeff Kent very quickly. The Giants are 5-0 against the Dodgers this year and 3-0 with Kurt Ainsworth on the hill. We suspect Nomo is favored tonight based on his 11-4 lifetime mark against Frisco. But these teams are certainly headed in opposite directions and teams that struggle offensively won’t be much of a challenge for the Giants. The Dodgers have plated just 20 runners in their last eight games combined. That puts an awful lot of burden on the pitching staff. The Giants are 7-1 this year against teams with a losing record outscoring them by nearly 2 ½ runs per game (6.6 to 4.3). We’ll ride that 8-0 road record again tonight.MLB Baseball
