The Phillies are returning home after completing a 12-game road trip in which they finished 6-6. They hold a 1/2 game lead over the Astros and the Marlins in the Wild Card Standings. Today they get a real test of playoff action, hosting Houston and Andy Pettitte.
To me, Andy Pettitte is the best big game pitcher in baseball, winning time and time again for the Yankees when it counted. He has pretty much been doing the same thing for the Astros this year. Pettitte has allowed 3 earned runs or less in 25 of his 27 starts this year, including 14 straight, thats outstanding!!!!!!! During that 14-game run, he's allowed 1 or zero earned runs an amazing 10 times and the Astros are 11-3 in those starts. Another key point, the Astros are 23-18 in their last 41 road games. The only National league team to fare better on the road in that time frame is the Cardinals.
I am a die hard Phillies fan, but I'm also a handicapper (at least I try to be one) that tries to look for strong plays and make a buck or two with the information I find. I have always respected Andy Pettitte as being one hell of a pitcher and competitor. I think my beloved Phillies are in trouble today!!!!! I'm playing the Astros +1.03 for 5 units!!!!
