Here's a rule about money management that I learned here on BC:

If you wager stars or units on your games (we'll call them stars for simplicity) should be no more than 2% of your beginning bankroll. So if your bankroll is $1,000 then each star should be $20.

If you win or lose 50% of your bankroll, then you revalue your stars to either $30 or $10 each. If you win and don't want to revalue your stars, cash out what you have won and enjoy your winnings!

Another thing I learned from Frankb, is that if you're cold, take a week or two off. Don't think about capping and enjoy life. Two weeks from now there will still be games for you to bet. You may miss a winner or two during your time off, but you probably missed some losers as well.
              Control what you can control...

                2 Outs

important to have at LEAST 2 outlets, i.e., books, whether local or offshore....a half-point can make the difference between walking & riding.
                SHOP AROUND.
esp. cheaper juice books....adds up in a hurry.

                  bump for the new guys

having 2 or 3 spots to bet is a must-agree 100 percent-that half point can save you 10 to 20 games in a season and sometimes you get some great middle shots-funny how people will bet different from one shop to another!!

i would advise staying away from bodogs/sportsbooks casinos, and only to visit there for the dogs especially. You can get great deals on other sites. Hmmmm...
other advice? I have none, and I've been doing this for over 3 years.... hmmm... Don't ever buy a service, most are only good at conning the people who pay them, they are professional con artists...

there was a recent discussion on why fading the public works, and how (the author of the thread) thought that it was hooey, well the reason fading works is multifactorial. But it works! I used to fade before I even found this site, I would find the free service picks and just bet against them. More than half the time this would win. And more than half is what you need baby!!!!

                    Everyone like my new avatar?

I like the avatar Jake- and you bring up a good point about fades. 1) Taking favorites is your first learning experience- 50 % Hits approximately. Risking 220 to make 150 is bad management. Heavy public Favorites - are wrong as much as 57 % of the time. I posted on here 2004 results. You lose big money following heavy favorites. Vegas has it easy they generally know who you are going to bet on and are mostly right. If it came down to Auburn and Alabama playing- Most jump on Auburn and it typically is Alabama that ******. 3) Money Management or the game is lost before you play. Select a bankroll number and separate 1/20 of the amount for safe betting and 1/10 for agressive betting. Bad Nights are going to happen and chasing may start to show up- stay with you game plan and take some time off from the casino. Chasing makes you want to push harder with more money but it rarely wins as you are no doubt taking a favorite to gat it back. 4) Ease up - there are lots of boobie traps - belief in a play is nice but it doesn't necessarily win. No such thing as lock- goy-gom that has anymore than a 50-50 chance of winning- really 5) don't make a living doing this. You don't have the exxperience or the intuition to lay off 'shiny stones' and Vegas makes a killing on this every year. All you can do is fine good value bets and win by percentages- not by a game. Good Luck

Some of my gambling tips I have learned

Here are some tips I have learned over the years, have learned a lot this last year since joining BC:

                          1) Have multiple sportsbooks - shop for the best line. Sometimes you might get an extra point of better juice or lines when comparing online sportsbooks.

                          2) Don't chase your losses - They say that is why there is so much action on Hawaii home games since they are usually the last game of the day. Also holds true for Sunday & Monday night football, people like to try getting their money back after a bad afternoon. There is always tomorrow.

                          3) Don't have to bet on every game or bet everyday - If you see nothing good, take the day off. I like to limit the number of games I bet to a best bet, or 3 games at the most for baseball for example. College sports I might do more since there are a lot more games to choose from.

                          4) Money Management - This is the most important tip, don't blow 1/2 of your bankroll on one game, there is no such thing as a lock. I personally like the star/unit system and will only go up to 5 stars which is very rare for me. Like to keep most bets at 1 or 2 units.

                          5) Do your own research - Don't bet on a game just because some service says so. Research the game and if you like it, bet it. This is one I really believe in, need to do your homework. If you like a game and other great cappers on this site have same game, I like to put more on the game.

Hope everyone has a great football season. Take advantage of all the knowledge on bettorschat, there are a lot of cappers here with many years of experience and know what they are talking about. I hope to keep learning from these guys on a daily basis.
                          Posted record as of 03/12/08:
