  • NFL Preseason Picks for Week 3

    6-7-0 (-2.16 units)

Week 3 tends to be the week that most teams play their starters more than any other in the preseason. I see a lot of good numbers on the card this weekend and have played a larger quantity of games than I did the first two weeks. Hopefully, it will result in a lot of WINS.

    8/25

    Jaguars -3 (+103) vs. Falcons 1*

The Jaguars have been very tough in preseason play during the Jack Del Rio era, posting records of 8-2 SU and 7-3 ATS. Atlanta is a decent 4-3 ATS under Jim Mora Jr, but they are 0-2 ATS in their 2 road games, and they lost those 2 games by a comined score of 51-0. Jackonsville looks like the play at home in this one.

    8/26

    Ravens PK (-102) @ Saints 1*

New Orleans went all out in their most recent preseason game, as they managed to defeat the New England Patriots 37-27 on the road. In that game, the Saints starting defense was on the field at the start of the 4th quarter! Whatever New Orleans wanted to prove to themselves or to the league, they would seem to have accomplished it with that win. I expect a letdown in this game at the Super Dome, where Jim Haslett is just 2-7 ATS in preseason play.

    Panthers -5.5 (-105) @ Browns 1*

Carolina let me down last weekend, losing 27-21 to the Giants, as I dropped my 2* play. However, even with that loss, John Fox is an incredible 11-3-1 ATS in preseason play, and the Panthers have covered the number in 9 of their last 10 exhibition games. I expect Carolina to rebound nicely in this one, and the only thing holding me back from making this another 2* play is Cleveland's very respectable 9-4 ATS home record in preseason play.

    Titans -3 (-117) @ 49ers 1*

The Titans are 16-5-1 ATS in preseason play since 2000, including 9-1-1 on the road. They look like solid play in this one against a 49ers team that has managed just 1 win in their last 6 preseason games. Tennesse has covered the spread in their 3rd preseason game in each of the last 3 seasons. All three of those games were on the road.

    8/27

    Buccaneers +3 (-109) @ Dolphins 1*

The Bucs are 8-3 SU in preseason play under Jon Gruden, so I like their chances getting 3 points against Miami. Nick Saban has lost his first 3 preseason games, and his team looked terrible on offense in their loss to the Steelers on Saturday, losing 7 fumbles.

    Cowboys -3 (-122) vs. Texans 2*

The Cowboys defense looked solid against Seattle on Monday Night, leading the team to an 18-10 victory, and preventing the Seattle backups from moving the ball throughout the 2nd half. Bill Parcells is 3-1 ATS in preseason home games as the coach of the Cowboys. Houston has been one of the worst preseason teams in the NFL since their inception in 2002, posting records of 3-12 SU, 4-11 ATS, and 1-5 ATS on the road. Houston has lost their last 5 preseason road games by scores of 31-17, 38-3, 34-3, 34-6 (@ Dallas in 2003), and 19-9. It's always hard for me to root for Dallas, but they look like a good play in this one and they are my biggest play of the weekend.

    Broncos -1.5 (-101) vs. Colts 1*

Indianapolis has humiliated the Broncos in the wildcard round of the AFC playoffs in each of the last 2 seasons. If the Broncos ever want to beat the Colts, they might have to do so at home, and in an exhibition game. Since 2000, Denver is 17-6 SU and 15-7-1 ATS in preseason play. I expect them to gain a very, very small measure of revenge against the Colts in this one.

I'll add anything else I like to the card later on. Good luck guys!

                  Adding a 1st half play

                  6-8-0 (-3.16 units)

                  8/26

                  Vikings -3.5 (-115) vs. Chargers (1st half) 1*

Mike Tice likes to turn it up in the third game dress rehearsal, and the Vikes have held big leads at halftime in Week 3 each of the last 2 years. With all the games I've lost thanks to 3rd or even 4th stringers this preseason, I like the fact that in this one I will either win or lose with starting players on the field.

                  Good luck tonight guys.

                      Back to .500

I had a very nice day on Saturday going 2-0-1 (+3.00 units) and winning my 2* play on the Cowboys.

That brings my record to 10-10-1 (-0.38 units) so far in the preseason.

Next week could be tricky with a lot of starters expected to be held out.

I hope you all had good days as well.
