  • Heat have 'good meeting' with Finley

I really hope the Heat get this guy....

MIAMI -- Free-agent swingman Michael Finley met Monday in his hometown of Chicago with Miami Heat president Pat Riley and coach Stan Van Gundy to discuss a possible contract, the team said.

    "A good meeting," Riley said.

"What they have to offer is attractive," said Finley's agent, Henry Thomas.

The Heat were the first team to meet with Finley since he was waived a week earlier by the Dallas Mavericks, Thomas said. Meetings with other teams are planned.

"Michael wants to have an adequate amount of time to listen to what all the teams have to offer, and then have some time to reflect," Thomas said. "I don't anticipate it dragging on very long."

Miami can offer Finley the full $5 million mid-level exception.

"We got some face time, and the ball is in his court," team spokesman Tim Donovan said.

In anticipation of a possible deal, the team placed 20 posters of Finley wearing a Heat uniform on light poles on the streets near the team's arena.

A two-time All-Star, Finley averaged 15.7 points last season, his lowest average since joining the Mavericks in 1996.

The Detroit Pistons and Denver Nuggets are among other teams holding onto their mid-level salary cap exceptions, and each is believed to have interest in Finley. Phoenix and San Antonio have interest, too, but the Suns can only offer the veteran's minimum, and the Spurs have only a portion of their mid-level exception remaining.
