200-Dallas/Seattle Over 31 and Seattle +4
I believe the Seattlle fans come out of the woodwork tonight for this game. They see a promising season ahead. A winning attitude from the start. Even preseason. I can not believe that the boys will come in here and dominate. To many families of the players to show off there talents. And this news out of Cowboy Camp:
Dallas Cowboys Ferguson and Rivera to miss game against. Seattle
August 21, 2005
OXNARD, Calif. (AP) - Dallas Cowboys nose tackle Jason Ferguson has reinjured his right ankle and will miss another pre-season game.
Ferguson missed the opener with a sprain, but returned to practice this week and was expected to play Monday night in Seattle.
"I think he kind of tweaked it a little bit," coach Bill Parcells said Saturday. "He's just not getting around. I'm getting a little worried about him to tell you the truth."
Ferguson will be among a group of injured players heading back to Dallas on Sunday, when training camp ends and the rest of the team flies to Seattle. The other notable passenger on the flight home is offensive lineman Marco Rivera, although it's no surprise since he didn't practise all week because of a strained hamstring.
Rivera and Ferguson were signed to big contracts at the start of free agency and are expected to help anchor both lines. Durability isn't a question for either, but they do need practice time with their new teammates, especially Ferguson because he plays a key role in the 3-4 scheme the Cowboys want to break in.
"He needs the work," Parcells said. "His baseline of practices is not that good and we're running out of practice time. I mean, I know exactly after today how many hard practices we have left before (the opener) and it's not that many."
That transition also is being slowed by first-round pick Marcus Spears' knee and ankle injuries. He'll also be on the flight back to Dallas, along with tight end Sean Ryan, fullbacks Darian Barnes and Erik Bickerstaff, and offensive lineman Jacob Rogers, who has elected to have season-ending knee surgery next week.
"I don't want to pass judgment on that," Parcells said. "That's what he decided he wanted to do."
The positive injury news is that rookie Justin Beriault, who is challenging for the starting job at free safety, will play despite a flare-up of a knee problem that required surgery several years ago.
Parcells said Beriault may eventually need another procedure, but "that's not where we are right now, that's for sure."
Extra points: Parcells said Drew Henson will follow Drew Bledsoe at quarterback Monday night, with Tony Romo going third. ... Tyson Walter will start in place of Rivera at RG, Al Johnson at centre and rookie Rob Petitti at RT. Torrin Tucker also will get 50 per cent of the snaps at RT, with Kurt Vollers working strictly at LT after Flozell Adams. ... Parcells said RB Anthony Thomas, who had just one carry in the opener, will be used more this game. ... Parcells said there are still about 20 players competing for 10 roster spots. ... In possibly his highest praise of camp, Parcells said this of punter Mat McBriar: "Based on last week, if he does that, he'll be over there in Hawaii in January." He averaged 54 yards on seven punts, with a long of 67 and three going inside the 20.
That would indicate some field advantage to the Cowboys - hope their defense is porous tonight.
