A profitable day Tuesday, going 2-2 (+2.35 units) with the four dogs posted yesterday. These are my plays for Wednesday.......
5 STAR: St. Louis (Morris)(-$190) OVER MILWAUKEE (FRANKLIN)
The Red Birds are banged up, but I still look for the to get the win today with Morris on the mound. Matt Morris is 25-6 when playing against a team with a losing record the last three seasons and he is 7-2 against the Brewers with an ERA of 2.25. High price here, so I suggest using them in a parlay with Minnesota.
5 STAR: MINNESOTA (REED)(-$220) OVER Detroit (Bernero)
The Twins have dominated the Tigers, especially at Minnesota where they are 18-2 over the last three seasons. Rick Reed is 2-0 against Detroit over the last three seasons with an ERA of 1.93. Reed is also 21-7 in home games since 1997 after allowing one or less earned runs in his last start. Tigers pitcher Adam Bernero is a career 0-3 against the Twins with an ERA of 7.02. The Tigers are also 0-6 in road games after 2 consecutive close losses by 2 runs or less to a division rival over the last 3 seasons. High price here, so I suggest using them in a parlay with St. Louis.
3 STAR: SEATTLE (GARCIA)(-$115) OVER Oakland (Hudson)
Going to go with the hot Mariners who have won four in a row against the slumping A's who have lost six straight. This game also falls into a revenge system play. When two teams that are meeting with the same pitching matchup for a second time this season, the loser of the first game is 9-2, in this case Garcia, who got tagged with the loss to Hudson on opening day.
2 STAR: Florida (Penny)(+$135) OVER PHILADELPHIA (MYERS)
Going to go with the Fish here again today as they try to break a three game losing streak. This is a pretty good spot for Florida, the Marlins are 20-11 after 3 straight losses against division rivals since 1997 and they are 16-7after a one run loss versus a division rival over the last 3 seasons. Penny pitched well and got the win in his last start against Atlanta, while Brett Myers looked a little shaky in his last outing, a loss to the Reds.
2 STAR: Tampa Bay (Parris)(+$220) OVER BOSTON (BURKETT)
John Burkett is only 5-10 as a home favorite of -150 or more over the last 3 seasons and he is 12-21 at home when the total is 10 to 10.5 since 1997. The Red Sox are also only 13-20 in home games after a win by 2 runs or less over the last 3 seasons. With the bullpen troubles that Boston is having, I'll take a shot with the Devil Rays in this spot.
2 STAR: TEXAS (PARK)(+$105) OVER Anaheim (Lackey)
The Rangers have taken the first two games of this series and they send Chan Ho Park to the hill today against the Angels and John Lackey. Park was sharp in his last outing for Texas, a 4-2 victory at Seattle on Friday. In that contest, he yielded one run and three hits in five innings. The Rangers are 7-2 against the Angels in games started by Park and he has an ERA of 4.18 in those nine starts. Lackey has not had much success against the Rangers so far in his young career, he is 1-2 against Texas with an ERA of 5.82. Texas is also 49-23 against the money line in home games after a one run win since 1997.
2 STAR: Colorado (Oliver)(+$135) OVER ARIZONA (BATISTA)
I have to go with the Rockies who are 5-0 against the Diamondbacks so far this season. Road teams off a win of 8 runs or more over a division rival, and have a winning percentage of 62% or better on the season are19-5 over the last 5 seasons. Arizona is 0-8 when revenging a loss where opponent scored 12 or more runs over the last 3 seasons. Miguel Batista is 1-11 versus National League teams scoring that are scoring 5.3 or more runs per game on the season since 1997.
