  • Preseason NFL football

    YTD: 9-8-1; +4 units.

    Tennessee +3 for 2 units

    Key trends:
Tenn is 8-1 ATS in preseason in last nine games.
Tenn is 8-1-1 ATS on road in preseason.
Tenn is 7-0 ATS as an underdog in preseason.

Tenn is a team that plays wells in the preseason under Jeff Fisher, especially over the last few years. He wants to win these games; as an example, look at the end of last week's game vs Tampa Bay. Tenn kicked a FB with seconds left on the clock to force OT. How often does a coach try to force OT in the preseason, so that his team still has a shot at a win? Additionally, despite losing in OT last week, Tenn outgained their opponent in yardage and converted only 18% of 3rd down opportunities (vs 44% for TB). And they almost won the game. It is hard to imagine that Tenn could repeat such an awful conversion rate ratio in back to back games. Billy Volek is one of the best backup QBs in the league, and with Drew Rosenhaus seeking a trade for him, he is in the spotlight now with this attention, and needs to perform.

Meanwhile, Atlanta has beaten Indianapolis and Baltimore in the past two weeks, two quality playoff opponents. I wonder if Atlanta has a bit of a letdown this week against a team that is not likely to compete for a playoff spot. Michael Vick will play for maybe a series or two, then be yanked out, which is the typical pattern. Part of the problem that Baltimore had last week against Atlanta in their self destruction was the QB play, completing 13 of 31 passes. Tenn should have success moving the ball through the air with McNair and Volek. I do wonder if Atlanta can get up for this game emotionally, as they just beat two solid playoff teams, and they still have a long way to go before preseason ends. Anyway, I believe Tenn will be the more motivated team tonight. Also, when placed in a role of underdog in preseason, they seem to respond. And last week was the first time in 3 years that Tenn dropped a game ATS in preseason. Give me the Titans and the pts.

    Good luck to all.

              Sweet. Hit Tenn.

Made a mistake on the total. Instead of +4, it should be +.4.

              Anyway, +2 units. 10-8-1; +2.4 units.
