  • Sad Story............

Hey guys, just wanted to share a quick story with you. I remember last week I started a thread about dogs and what everyone had. Well, right after that here's where the story begins. Nicole and I came home one night after going out and there was this small black cat sitting on the curb outside our house. Well I didn't even notice but Nicole stayed outside and started playing with it. To make a long story short, she brought her in the house and within 3 days we absolutely fell in love. It was the friendliest kitty I've ever seen in my life. I'm not a cat person at all, but this cat was like a dog. It came when you called her, we named her Joey, and we became very attached to her. We put up signs all over the neighborhood in case it got away and was someone else's kitty. We bought her a litter box, fed her back to health (she was very skinny), and let her sleep in our room everynight.

Well, Nicole was home and we left her on the porch for a little to get some sun, she loved to lay out and would come back home. This time she didn't. She left 2 nights ago. We figured no big deal, she'd be back in a day or two. Well, about 10 minutes ago Nicole was just on the back porch talking to the neighbors:

They found Joey yesterday! They took her down to animal friends to have her checked out for us and make sure she was healthy. It ended up she had Feline Leukemia. They had to put her down. I'm tearing up just typing this. Nicole came back in the house after acting like they did a good thing and just broke down crying, which is harder for me than the actual cat. Anyway, she's really heart broken and feels like even after 3 days, she lost a really great pet. Just wanted to share a quick story with you guys. Hope all of your nights are better than ours.

Damn man, that breaks my heart Mike. I'm not a cat person either, but my ex found a cat and it is the best animal and friend in the whole world to me. I couldn't imagine anything happening to it. I keep it inside and never let it out. Luckily my ex let me keep it. I recently lost two dogs to cancer in the same month. I REALLY feel for you bro. Animals are great because they never judge you. They love you and trust you unconditionally. Keep your chin up. Adopt another from the shelter and keep it inside or within your vision if it's outside.....KAZDOG

Thanks buddy! I appreciate your response. I'm going to get her a little puppy in two weeks when we move. I love dogs and she's been wanting one forever. I know how you feel, I lost our family dog about a year ago after having her for 8 years. She was a Shar-Pei and she was the best dog you could ever imagine.

Kaz, you should post more and give out some plays! talk to you soon.

          Mike,

I know exactely how you feel here buddy, and I feel for you. I have a soft heart when it comes to animals. I lost my first boxer a year ago after 9 great years. I now have a new one who is 8 months old now.

My dog, Sparky, is always there for me. Since I hurt my back, he sure helps the days go by faster.

Sorry to hear that RJ. I'm a big cat lover w/3 of my own. I had one kitty put to sleep last year. She was an indoor cat who accidently got out. Anyway she got into a fight with a stray cat and contracted feline HIV. Talk about watching a grown man cry. Thoughts are with you both! :bestwishe

Sorry to hear about your loss, RJ. I'd never had a cat in my life until 5 years ago when a little black cat appeared on our back patio about half dead. She adopted us and she's a really good pet. Right before that we'd had to put our 11-yr old dog down. I cried and we all grieved the loss. Pets tend to become part of the family after a while.

You can get attached to animals easy! I Have a house full! But look at the bright side animals are put here for our enjoyment you should be good to them and if something happens replace them that's all you can do!

I am really sorry to hear about your loss. I had to put my dog of 15 years down not too long ago and it was by far the hardest thing I have ever had to do. I still cry everytime I look at a picture of her. My thoughts go out to you and your girl

                        sorry rj.........

rj, i too am a ridiculous animal lover.........mostly dogs, and spent 4 years as a 'cruelty to animals' prosecutor.........you can't even imagine some of the things i have seen......i myself own 2 dogs, a lab mix, and a pit bull mix who is the greatest dog in the world.........it makes me sick to see these oplaces that are banning pit bulls and putting them to sleep........we are supposed to live in such an educated society yet our legislature cant figure out that it is the owners of these animals, not the animals themselves that should 'banned'.........

i will get off my high horse for a moment but tell you that 35 years into my life, no question my proudest moments are all the years in prison i have given to people who hurt animals........best story being that i prosecuted a dude one who was accused of putting antifreeze in a dogs food, obviously it killed the dog but it was impossible to prove in trial and the guy walked........on his way out the court room, he was just laughing at me as i sat there more upset than any trial i had ever lost...........funny thing was 7 months later, he got arrested for 'sale of cocaine' and i gave him 12 years......he is 6 years in and must think every day and every night that little laugh probably cost him 10 years of his life

ok , i am done now..........sorry about that cat, but winton is right, get another one, your family will love that one too......the hardest part about owning animals is their short life spans, but they provide us with more joy than hitting a 4 team parlay

no, i dont work for peta

RJ. My wife was a cat lover, I wasen't. Bev had 5 cats when she died and before she died I promised her I would keep and take care of her cats. In the 9 years since Bev died, 4 of her cats have died and the one still left is a beautiful long hair 15 years old. Now that I am living alone, I got very attached to the one cat that is left, something I never thought I would do. I'm spoiling her and every morning when I awake, she is up on the bed wanting for me to pet her. Reading your story, made me think how I would feel if Tia had died and I would be feeling the same way you are now. It's good you are getting another pet so soon.

guys your stories are really amazing. shorty and sandman especially yours, animals can really bring out the soft side in people. anyone that hurts animals should be treated like a fucking wild animal. caged up in a jail and let out for 1 hour a day. see how you like it. I was a cop for 4.5 years and i also know what its like to put people away. some of them i was glad, and others i was sad.

thanks all for sharing you very personal stories!!
