        13) Golfer Jason Gore shot a 59 on Nationwide Tour Friday, then had eight consecutive birdies Sunday, as he won his third tournament of season, and got on the PGA Tour for the rest of the season.

        12) If I rooted for the Mets, and a radio announcer for Mets called Carlos Beltran "a timid outfielder", would I be happy that my team spent $100 million on him?

To me, announcer Howie Rose is fair, and definitely wants the Mets to win, as he is authority on all things Mets, so if he criticizes a star player, it is warranted.

        11) Was out Saturday night, and the bar TVs had four things on: poker, X Games, quarter horse racing from Los Alamitos and Astros-Diamondbacks baseball tilt. By far, the event getting the least amount of attention was the baseball game.

        10) Was impressive to hear both Dan Marinos speak at the Hall of Fame Sunday; the younger Marino has taken acting lessons and performed, so his polish was not surprising. The elder Marino is obviously revered by those who know him; those things become clear at an event like this.

When someone like Bob Costas, who works at HBO with Marino, comes in for an event like this, that is an obvious statement of respect. Jackie Sherrill, one of his coaches at Pitt, came in, as did both Mark Clayton and Mark Duper, who caught so many passes from Marino. All in all, an excellent event.

        9) Once again, Steve Young plays second fiddle; his 49er career was in shadow of Joe Montana, and Hall of Fame enshrinement was in Marino's shadow. Still, I rated Young as a better player than Marino. Running QBs always scare the hell out of me.

        8) Just because every stat Marino has is so awesome, he threw 3,391 passes that were either incomplete or picked off. Incredible number by a great passer.

        7) Marino family seems so close. Teenage kids aren't always cooperative, but the two sons that sat in front now both wore #13 Dolphin jerseys. All of them just seemed like the ideal family. Pretty cool.

        6) Las Vegas will host the 2007 NBA All-Star Game, which guarantees that every limo west of the Rockies will be on the Strip that weekend.

        5) Strangest TV commercial in years; Snoop Dawg on golf course with Lee Iacocca, doing Chrysler ad. Talk about worlds colliding.

        4) Shareef Abdur-Rahim sprained his knee 12 years ago, in high school, and that is what is holding up his trade to the Nets. Having been burned in the past with injured players, they are being ultra-cautious.

        3) I am guessing teams that will have edge in NHL this season are teams with experienced coaches, who are sharper at putting a team together. All of which makes this next note a little more unusual...........

.........Phoenix will announce Wayne Gretzky as coach on Monday. Granted, he is an icon who will help the league recover from the last year, but he hasn't been a coach, and will be at a disadvantage this season.

        2) Seen on a t-shirt in Florida:

"Seven days without pizza makes you weak" I agree.

1)Peter Jennings died from lung cancer. Anchormen like Jennings come into our homes for years, so much so that they become fixtures. Just to think that he was 67 years old is amazing; he didn't look it.

Peter Jennings will surely be missed.
