    12) St Louis Cardinal baseball has been on KMOX radio for the past 52 years, but it won't be next year, as KMOX lost the rights to a rival station this week. New stadium, new radio station for the Redbirds next season.

    11) Contracts for NFL rookies are bit more complex this year, since the Labor Agreement is scheduled to end within the life of these contracts. Whereas a normal rookie contract is five of six pages in length, one first-round pick this season has contract that is 24 pages long.

    10) Touted rookie Felix Hernandez, a highly-touted 19-year old phenom, made his big league debut for the Mariners Thursday afternoon in Detroit. He gave up two runs in five innings in an impressive debut.

    9) NFL Network is providing excellent coverage of training camps, many days focusing on one team for an hour. The network will broadcast over fifty preseason games this summer.

    8) No Dallas Cowboy has ever worn number 49.

    7) There are thirteen new offensive coordinators on NFL teams this season. Big turnover for a post, where a big year gets you head coaching job, bad year gets you fired.

    6) I saw a darts tournament televised last night, and a ladies' curling event last week. This poker craze is causing more low-cost obscure sports to be televised. Guess it beats watching televised fishing.

    5) Jim Fassel's 31-year old son has joined his father on Baltimore Ravens' coaching staff. Young Fassel coached at New Mexico Highlands last season.

    4) Colt receiver Brandon Stokely dislocated shoulder in Japan, as Indy prepares for American Bowl Saturday night vs Falcons. Stokely might not be ready for season opener, which hurts, since he is guy Peyton Manning looks for on third down.

    3) When I was kid, Andre the Giant used to wrestle two or three guys at once; handicap matches, they were called, and Andre always won, or the other guys got DQ'd.

Anyway, there is another kind of handicap match going on now, as Adidas has teamed with Reebok to combat Nike's share in sneaker industry. Ton of cash involved in this merger, few billion dollars. Nike is Andre the Giant in this tussle; I doubt they'll come out a loser.

    2) If you're Hall of Fame voter, how can you vote for Palmeiro, McGwire, Bonds or Sheffield, when Pete Rose isn't in? Whose offenses are worse?

    1) Memo to Congress: Yes, you nitwits who make our laws. Stay away from the steroids issue until gas gets under $2.00 a gallon. Fuel prices should be Congress' absolute, drop-dead, #1 priority right now. That and getting our people home from the Middle East.

Every waking minute should be spent on these issues. Until then, keep your greedy, attention-grabbing hands away from something trivial like sports.
