    12) Most underrated part of massive, five-team NBA trade is Miami acquiring James Posey; he can guard multiple positions and will help Miami immensely.

    11) Baltimore Orioles are playing so dreadfully right now; hard to believe this is same team that was so good early in the season. They are horrible right now.

    10) Jets are putting in the shotgun formation, after four years without it. Players are said to be happy about this change.

    9) Taking steroids is one thing, lying to Congress is quite another. Bad idea. Saying nothing and looking ridiculous (see McGwire, Mark) is a much better idea.

    8) The level of public cynicism is high. Jason Giambi is getting questions about whether he is back on the juice, since he is hitting well. He never even admitted taking anything, although he did issue the non-apology apology this spring.

    7) Padres are in first place, with a 52-55 record. No pro team should ever make the playoffs with less than a .500 record.

    6) I see quarterhorse racing on TVG, and I don't quite understand; some of these races are only 350 yards. What's the point? They are like dog races. Why would anyone wager on a 350-yard race?

    5) Baltimore Ravens have training camp at McDaniel College in Westminster, MD, where they share the campus with a girls' soccer camp. If I had a daughter, she would not go to any camp where they shared the campus with pro athletes. That is asking for trouble.

    4) Speaking of their Ravens, Anthony Wright will back up Kyle Boller this season, with erratic Oregon State rookie Derek Anderson the third QB. The quality of backup QB's in the NFL is dropping at an alarming rate.

    3) Bernie Williams will be paid $3.5 million to go away next season. As diminished as his skills appear to be, I doubt anyone else will pick him up.
