PHILADELPHIA -- Peter Forsberg will finally play for the Philadelphia Flyers, who signed the former MVP to a two-year contract on Wednesday/
Terms were not disclosed, but ESPN has confirmed the deal is worth $10.7 million with Forsberg receiving $5.7 million in the first year and $5 million in the second year.
The Flyers originally drafted Forsberg in 1991 but dealt him in the Eric Lindros trade to Quebec in 1992. Since then, Forsberg has become one of the best players in the game, a seven-time All-Star and the league's most valuable player with the Colorado Avalanche in 2003.
Forsberg helped the Avalanche win the Stanley Cup in 1996 and 2001, though injuries limited him to 39 games in 2003-04. Last year, he played for the Swedish Elite League.
When he's healthy, Forsberg is one of the best players in the game.
The move comes a day after the Flyers bulked up their defense by signing hulking blueliners Derian Hatcher, Mike Rathje and Chris Therien to free-agent contracts.
The acquistion will put the Flyers over the league's new salary cap, and the team will likely have to move some players to get back under the cap. The Sports Network of Canada is reporting that one of those players could be Jeremy Roenick.
Forsberg was originally drafted sixth overall by the Flyers, but his rights were traded a year later with Steve Duchesne, Kerry Huffman, Ron Hextall, Mike Ricci, Chris Simon, two draft picks and cash to the Quebec Nordiques for Lindros.
