  • Underdog of the year!!!!

    Arizona Diamondbacks +150

Clemens has an achy back and has already lost to the D-backs in Houston. As for Vargas...he has given up just 5 earned runs in his last 31 and 1/3 innings of work...The play is on the D-Backs to get the big home win!!!

Ripken. I almost posted them as a second dog play. I like your pick and your reasoning. Good Luck.

                    Good Luck- Ripkenfan-
                    Vargas has looked good.
-but I believe Clemens should be able to go strong today. I believe the line being lower than normal because of the concern and feel Clemens (with his back spasms or not) will endure. I believe they would not risk him if they felt he was not able to go.

                    July 27, 2005- Houston Chronicle
(Looking for something dated today on his condition.)
The Rocket's sore back, Lance and Villone...

Here's another one for your Rocket file. He had such severe back spasms before Wednesday's game that Mike Burns was also sent down to the bullpen to warm up.

Clemens didn't just answer the bell. He went seven innings and allowed two runs to win his 337th game.

If his teammates had scored a single run in three April starts, if the bullpen hadn't blown four leads, he'd have 15 victories.
