As you guys remember I complained once about being broke....I have come back from the grave and gained some extra change, playing poker, and betting on these crazy baseball games. I have seen way to many people go nuts over losing and as I know from experience a good loss does hurt.

So let me offer my words if you would mind to read them for a second.


If you cant have fun while your gambling don't do it.
Never NEVER bet with money youd be afraid to lose.
No games are guarentees.

And last but not least...
If you use a local NEVER again NEVER bet with money you dont have. Seen this happen way to many times and peoples lives flushed down the drains sometimes literally.

A lot of times a local will let you basically bet on credit then on say tuesday you owe him or he owes you whatever the amount is..

I usually bet with locals. And there is no if you don't pay. For a few dollars then sometimes they let you slide or give you time but for the big money they will collect.

Good advice Dan. I use two locals here. And while they would be quite upset over someone not paying them, I don't think any physical harm would be in their future. I've had this conversation with both of them over a few beers and they both agree that the guy would just be cut off. None of them want to risk jail time over a few grand. It's not worth it....especially since it's not like they are out anything tangiable (like they sold you a watch and you didn't pay). One of them gave me some good advice that I still keep in mind when I'm down for the week, "get out like you got in."

Interesting thread. There are locals and then there are locals. The small independent guy may threaten you verbally, but it's unlikey he would carry out his threats. He may even let you pay on the easy payment plan and still let you play. But, in some of the larger cities your local still may be part of orgainized crime and depending on how much you owe, could get physical with you. I've heard it said from friends of mine who are indepentent locals, that most Asian books are tied in to Asian gangs and you better pay what you owe, when you owe it or you or your property may get damaged. Didn't ever wonder what that ground stuff in a won ton is. When I played with locals during football season the week ended on Monday and the rest of the year the week ended on Sunday. They wanted guys in the hole to try and get back to even by betting on Monday night football. That's why you settled based on what your won or lost from Tuesday thru Monday during football season.

Anyone who has a problem managing their money should never play on credit with a local. They should play with an offshore where if the money isn't in your account, you cannot place a bet. No exceptions.

Good points all around!!! And thanks for bringing this up now, right before football season!! Let this serve as a friendly reminder to us all not to chase and bet over our heads!! My locals out here just cut your line, make you pay, and turn your name and reputation to shit around town!!and in this small town, word travels quickly!!!
I did however have a classmate of mine end up in the "poke" after killing somebody, because he owed the guy money and was afraid of getting hit first. Yeh I know, I think drugs were involved here as well.
Anyways Football season is comming and is long so be carefull guys, so we can enjoy it!!!!......Goodluck gang!
