  • Thursday baseball...........

Still hovering around break even for the season, lets turn the corner today. These are my early plays for Thursday, more to come shortly................

5 STAR: TAMPA BAY (PARRIS)(+$118) OVER Baltimore (Ponson)
I like the Rays to complete the sweep here today. Sidney Ponson did not get out of the second inning in his first start this season against the Red Sox, and he has struggled in his career against Tampa Bay posting a 3-6 record in 14 starts. Ponson is also Steve Parris is 19-4 in home games when pitching against a team with a losing record since 1997. The Orioles are only 3-22 in road games against American League teams with a batting average of .295 or better since 1997.

5 STAR: Milwaukee (Sheets)(+$130) OVER PITTSBURGH (SUPPAN)
Milwaukee looks for a three game sweep on the road against the Pirates for the first time since 1999. They send their ace Ben Sheets to the mound today. Sheets has not pitched very well in his first two starts, but he has pitched well against the Pirates in the past with an ERA of 3.35 in sever career starts. The Pirates pitcher, Jeff Suppan, has been hammered by the Brewers in the past, posting an ERA of 6.41 in four starts. The Brewers are 24-17 in road games after a one run victory since 1997, while the Pirates are 3-10 when revenging a home loss as a favorite of -$150 or more since 1997.

        Rest of the card........

Here are the rest of my plays for today.......

3 STAR: COLORADO (CHACON)(-$110) OVER St. Louis (Stephenson)
Going to ride the hot Rockies bats again today. The Rockies are averaging seven runs a game, and this has come against big time pitchers like Oswalt, Miller, Schilling and Johnson. They should be able to pick up where they left off yesterday against Garrett Stephenson today. Stephenson was impressive in his first start, but that was against the Brewers. This is Coors Field and the high powered Rockies, a team that he has struggled against in the past. Stephenson is is 0-2 with an 8.65 ERA in five outings at Coors in his career, and he struggle on the road last season as well going 0-2 with a 7.11 ERA in four appearances. Shawn Chacon (1-0, 1.29), is also coming off an impressive season debut. He defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks last Friday, allowing just one runs and two hits in seven innings. He has pitched descent at home where he is 8-9 with a 5.55 ERA in 24 career starts at Coors Field. This could be another long day for the Cardinals and their struggling bullpen.

2 STAR: FLORIDA (BECKETT)(-$110) OVER New York (Glavine)
Tom Glavine got his first win as a Met in his last start on Saturday, allowing one run and five hits in 5 2/3 innings against the Montreal Expos. I don't expect him to have the same success today at Florida. The veteran lefthander has struggled in his career at Pro Player Stadium, where he is 6-9 with a 4.97 ERA in 15 outings. The Mets are also only 11-27 e in road games versus NL teams scoring 4.8 or more runs per game on the season over the last 3 seasons.

1 STAR: Montreal (Armas)(+$105) OVER CHICAGO (ESTES)
The Expos will try to avoid the sweep by the Cubs today with pitcher Tony Armas. Armas is 5-1 versus teams outscoring their opponents by 1 or more runs per game on the season over the last 3 seasons. Shawn Estes gets the start for the Cubs. The lefthander was roughed up in his first outing, surrendering eight runs and eight hits over four innings to Cincinnati. Estes is also only 4-7 in 14 lifetime games against the Expos.

1 STAR: Oakland (Lilly)(-$137) OVER TEXAS (LEWIS)
The A's have dominated this series winning nine straight games, including a 13-5 win last night. Road teams with a winning percentage of 62% or more off a win of 8 runs or more over a division rival, are 18-4 the last five seasons. Oakland pitcher Ted Lilly is 7-1 versus an American League team with a team batting average of .255 or worse over the last 3 seasons. Texas is 1-7 in home games off a loss by 6 runs or more to a division rival over the last 3 seasons.

1 STAR: CLEVELAND (DAVIS)(+$152) OVER Chicago (Buehrle)
The White Sox have really struggled on the road to start this season, going 1-4 and averaging less than three runs scored per games. They send Mark Buehrle to the mound today. Buehrle has struggled in eight appearances against the Indians, going 3-4 with a 5.40 ERA - his highest against any American League opponent and has struggled in four lifetime outings at Jacobs Field, where he is 1-2 with a 5.79 ERA. Cleveland is 10-5 after seven or more consecutive games as an underdog over the last 3 seasons.

        * ALL LISTED PITCHERS MUST START OR THE PLAY IS NO ACTION

        Good luck,

          Final two plays....

Not off to a stellar start today....hopefully things will turn around. These are my last two plays of the day.......

3 STAR: Atlanta (Hodges)(+$117) OVER PHILADELPHIA (ROA)

Atlanta is 14-2 after allowing 12 runs or more since 1997 and they are 7-1 in road games revenging a loss where opponent scored 12 or more runs since 1997. Joe Roa is 0-2 when starting against Atlanta with an ERA of 9.00.

3 STAR: Los Angeles (Nomo)(+$98) OVER SAN FRANCISCO (AINSWORTH)

Nomo is 11-3 with a 2.63 ERA in 16 career starts against the Giants, winning nine of his last 10 decisions. Last season, he went 4-1 with a 4.21 ERA in six starts. The Giants are 3-11 in home games after a game with a combined score of 20 runs or more since 1997.

          Good luck,
